Moore, Storts win gold medal at USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic National Championships

The Aerials Acro Gymnastics team competed at the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic National Championships held in Detroit, Mich, July 22-25. The nation's top 600 acrobatic gymnasts traveled to Detroit to compete in the only national championship meet of the year for acrobatic gymnastics.

The pair of Caitlynn Moore (East Clinton) and Rilee Storts (Fairfield) earned a first-place finish in the Level 7 pair division for a back-to-back gold for Moore.

Other medalists from Aerials included the trio of Raelee Schulz (Clinton-Massie), Lydia Kessler (East Clinton) and Storts earning a silver medal in the Level 6 trio division, and the Highland County duo of Ashli Maynard (Hillsboro) and Sammi Shepherd (Fairfield) earning a silver medal in the Level 9 pair division.

All 12 members of the Aerials team qualified to compete at the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic National Championships by earning top scores at the Region 5 Championships held at Hand2Hand in Springboro in June.

The Aerials Acro Team is coached by former national champions Angie Layne (Waynesville) and Tina Maynard (Hillsboro). Assistant coaches are Taylor Wilkin and Melissa Shepherd. The 2012-2013 tryout/clinic will be held in September at the Wilmington gym on Davids Drive.

Level 6 Trio (11 & under): Rilee Storts, Raelee Schulz & Lydia Kessler, silver, score: 23.45.

Level 7 Pair (12-14 age group): Raelee Schulz and Jayme Maynard, 12th, score: 24.75.

Level 7 Pair (12-14 age group): Emily Earley and Lydia Kessler, 17th, score: 23.15.

Level 7 Pair (15-16 age group): Caitlynn Moore and Rilee Storts, gold, score: 24.80.

Level 8 Pair (12-14 age group): Lindsay Ellen and Kendall Anderson, 13th, score: 46.10 (2 routines).

Level 8 Pair (15-16 age group): Rosie Schreier and Kiley Allen, 9th, score: 44.25 (2 routines).

Level 8 Trio (15-16 age group): Jayme Maynard, Caitlynn Moore and Kiley Allen, 6th, score: 50.20 (2 routines).

Level 9 Pair (17 and older): Ashli Maynard and Sammi Shepherd, silver, score: 48.40 (2 routines).
