McClain, Hillsboro track athletes advance to regionals

WASHINGTON C.H. — Members of the Hillsboro and McClain track and field teams did what they needed to do during the two-day Division II SE District track and field championships in Washington C.H. to advance to the regional meet this coming week.
The event, which took place on a Tuesday and Saturday, saw a combined total of 21 individual events or relay teams advance to the regional meet from either HHS or MHS.
For HHS in the boys events, the 4x800-meter relay team placed third with a time of 8:37.06, consisting of runners Michael Theobold, Collin Rothwell, Wyatt Gleadle and Jarrod Hart.
Also for the HHS boys track team, Thomas Wilkin was fourth in the pole vault at 11-06.00, and the 4x100 relay team of David Abernathy, Jarrod Hart, Christian Wildey and Jordan O'Connor was third with a time of 45.15.
The winner of the 800m run was Hart at 1:57.74, and the 4x400m relay team of Theobold, Abernathy, Rothwell and Hart was second at 3:36.07.
For the McClain Tigers boys team, Jordan Goble was second in the long jump at 21-05.00. Evan Mustard was fourth in the 110m hurdles at 17.03.
The big winner for the Tigers was Luis Rivas in the 400m dash with a time of 50.77, which is the event he reached the state meet in last year.
Caleb Mootispaw was second in the 3200m run at 10:17.53.
In the girls events, for HHS, Leah Pence was third in the 100m hurdles at 16.39, and teammate Allison Goolsby was fourth at 17.00. Pence was second in the pole vault at 9-00.00.
Hannah Kibler (HHS) was second in the 100m dash at 12.86.
HHS was first in the 4x100m relay with the team of Megan Overberg, Autumn Hacker, Brooke Smith and Kibler at 1:48.50 for a new district record.
The HHS girls were second in the 4x100m relay (Pence, Stanforth, Smith, Kibler), finishing with a time of 51.81.
Overberg was second in the 400m dash at 1:00.27.
McClain's Taylor Faulconer was second in the 300m hurdles at 47.16.
Opst was fourth in the 800m run 2:27.60, and in the 200m dash Kibler was second at 26.13; and McClain's Felicity Peabody was third at 26.92.
HHS was third in the 4x400m relay with Opst, Hacker, Ferrell, Overberg finishing with a time of 4:10.85.
Thornville Sheridan won the boys district title with 140.50 points. HHS was fourth with 51 points, and MHS was seventh with 43 points.
In the girls meet, Thornville Sheridan won with 103 points. HHS was fourth at 85 points, and MHS was eighth with 29 points.
The Division II Regional track and field meet will take place on Thursday, May 24 and Saturday, May 26 at Athens High School.
