LEESBURG - Shuffling and shaking inside the paint, along with timely outside shooting, the Fairfield Lions showed they were king of the jungle Friday night as they defeated the Manchester Greyhounds 56-46 in Southern Hills League play.
The game was also the homecoming celebration for Fairfield as Diana Barrett was crowned queen and Cody Davidson was selected king in pregame festivities.
The Greyhounds rallied at times in the 32 minute event, but the Lions played well enough to keep Manchester away from taking the lead all but one time in the opening frame.
Three times in the third frame Manchester tied the game, but just couldn't stop the Lions from regaining the top spot.
The third began with Ian Adams lifting the Lions to a 26-20 advantage with fast break points, but the Greyhounds answered with a 6-0 as Blake Blevins (who finished with a team-high 15 points), Dawson Little and Dilan Edwards produced the six points to tie the score at 26, but each time the score was tied it was FHS junior Chris Cox who put the Lions back in the lead with put back buckets on all three occasions.
After Cox gave Fairfield a 32-30 lead with 3:26 left in the third, Cameron Rolark scored on a two-on-one FHS advantage with Adams passing the ball to Rolark for the layup basket. Cox and Rolark ended the third with a turnaround jumper by Cox and a 3-pointer from Rolark with 18 seconds left.
The final quarter was full of scoring with the Lions winning the fourth at 17-14.
Cox scored the first eight points by the Lions in the fourth to put the Lions ahead 45-34, scoring his fourth point of the quarter with a stop-and-go jumper.
Rolark put the Lions ahead 50-38 by nailing a 3-pointer, than sank a jumper with 1:42 to make the score 52-41.
Cody Tolle and Cox scored the final FHS points in the league win.
Cox finished with a double-double by netting a game-high 29 points and 10 rebounds.  The junior made 13 shots from the floor and was 3 of 6 from the free-throw line.
Rolark ended with 15 points, knocking down two 3-pointers and and four field goals. He was 1 of 2 from the foul line.
The Lions dominated the opening eight minutes leading 17-9 when the quarter was completed.
Adams put the Lions in the lead early in the quarter with a 3-pointer at the 5:27 mark of the first. Adams sank another 3-ball with 3:29 left in the same quarter for a 10-5 advantage.
In a span of just over a minute Cox netted six straight points for the Lions to give FHS a 16-7 lead with 1:33 left in the first.
In the second the Greyhounds cut the Lions' lead down to 17-11 with a bucket by Dylan Hanson, but Rolark and Cox answered with a combined three points for a nine point FHS lead.
Alex Henson gave the Lions a boost near the end of the first half with a two-point basket with 53 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
"Alex had good floor play for us," Carson said. "He had seven rebounds and three assists."
The Lions out-rebounded the Greyhounds 34-19.
Fairfield improves to 8-5 overall, 6-2 in SHL play. They will play again Tuesday as they host Peebles in league play.
