GREENFIELD — Thursday belonged to Miami Trace pitcher Ty Leach. The senior ace held the the McClain Tigers hitless, gaining a six-inning, 10-0, run-rule no-hitter at Mitchell Park on Thomas Hixon Field.
Leach faced 18 batters, striking out five and walking just one. Travis McIntoch was behind the plate for Leach for the no-hitter.
"Ty Leach kept us off-balanced all game. Miami Trace was solid defensively, and they made plays," MHS head coach Brandon Streitenberger said. "They (MT) are a good team. They have a lot of seniors and are coached well. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap when you get beat."
In the first inning, Leach gained outs on two strikeouts and a ball back to him, which he tossed to first base. As for the second inning, all three outs were made in the infield.
Leach struck out the first two batters in the third, followed by a ground out to third. In the fourth, the inning began with a ball hit back to Leach, who threw it to first for the first out. Leach then issued a walk by Tanner VanZant, but two more outs were recorded in the infield.
In the fifth, the first out was recorded on a fly ball to right field, followed by a swinging strikeout. Leach ended the inning by tossing the ball to first base. In the sixth, the first two outs came in the infield, and the final out was on a fly ball to right field.
The MT ace had a full count just twice and counts with two strikes seven times.
Leach had run support, scoring 10 runs, eight in the sixth inning, sending 13 batters to the plate while forcing the Tigers to use three pitchers in the inning.
The sixth included six Miami Trace hits, two walks and one hit batter. The two through nine hitters for the Panthers all scored runs in the inning.
The first two runs for the Panthers came in the second and third innings. McIntoch scored the first run of the game in the second, and Tucker Hughes made the score 2-0 in the third. Hughes reached on a walk, advanced to second and stole third. He took home on a wild throw to third base that ended up in left field.
For MT, Hughes and McIntoch each had two hits. Snyder, Leach and Campbell each had one hit for MT.
This was the second time this season the Tigers have been held hitless in a game.
MHS now stands at 5-1 in the SCOL and 9-5 overall.
"This was our fourth game in 19 days, not to make excuses, everyone was in the same boat," Streitenberger said.
The loss was charged to Jacob Dillon, who struck out three. Kyle Flora pitched in relief, and Ryan Case pitched 2-3 of an inning to end the top of the sixth.
The Tigers and Panthers are scheduled to play again Friday for their second SCOL game in as many days.[[In-content Ad]]
