Lady Indians blank MP; 1 win away from title

HILLSBORO — The Hillsboro Lady Indians are now just one win away from clinching at least a share of the South Central Ohio League girls soccer championship with a 7-0 win over the Madison-Plains Lady Golden Eagles, Thursday at Richards Memorial Field.
This was the third match in a row for the Lady Indians as they defeated Fayetteville on Wednesday (3-1) and London.
Hillsboro scored four goals in the first half and added three more in the final 40 minutes for the SCOL win. HHS has one league match remaining next Thursday when they host the London Lady Red Raiders.
"We came out kind of sluggish with this being our third game in a row," HHS coach Leslie Molen said. "It will be a good rest for our team the next few days. But the thing about it is we don't need to be on the back of our heels and we can't get cocky.
"Having a layoff like we are about to have is good in a way for the rest, but bad in a way because it can knock you off your rhythm."
Thursday's match was what the Lady Indians have become accustomed to most of the season … scoring early and often, while taking the lead into halftime.
In the first half, Leah Pence was first to score with a goal at the 29:08 mark with the assist from Jordan Davis. Madison Colliver followed to make it a 2-0 score with 22:39 left in the opening 40 minutes with a goal.
Taylor Stanforth energized the Lady Indians with consecutive goals at the 10:21 and 5:52 marks, ending the first half with a four-goal advantage.
The second half was more of the same for HHS with goals from Kristy Hopkins, Hailey Wisman and Kaylee Achor.
Hopkins' goal came with 10:41 left in the match as Trista Rhodes was credited with the assist, making the score 5-0.
It became a six-goal lead with the goal from Wisman, as Colliver assisted with 9:31 left on the scoreboard.
The final HHS goal came with 1:26 left in the match when Achor put the ball past the keeper with the assist, again, to Colliver.
In the first half at keeper, Sara Sexton had one touch at keeper, and in the second half, Rachel Sexton had two touches at keeper.
The win lifts HHS to 13-0-2 overall and 9-0-2 in the SCOL. Their game with London will be on Thursday, Oct. 13 starting at 5:30 p.m.
