BLANCHESTER —The Hillsboro Lady Indians rallied in the fourth quarter after trailing by 13 points in the same frame. The outburst of scoring wasn't enough as they dropped their season opener to the Blanchester Lady Wildcats, 52-46 Tuesday at BHS.
The non-league loss puts HHS at 0-1 overall, but Hillsboro head coach JR Moberly said his squad played hard the entire game, and they didn't quit.
"We cut their (BHS) lead to two points in the fourth quarter, but we just couldn't get over the hump," Moberly said. "We didn't shoot well at times, causing us to miss some opportunities."
Blanchester led 13-9 after the opening eight minutes and 26-20 at halftime as the Lady Indians scored 11 points in the second frame.
BHS outscored Hillsboro 11-10 in the third, but HHS did score the most points in the fourth at 16-15, capitalizing off forced turnovers. HHS was 4-of-8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.
Kaylynn Bell, a freshman, led HHS in scoring with 15 points, while adding five rebounds. She made five two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and was 2-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Senior Carey Juillerat followed with 10 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Senior Danielle Gillman added six points and seven rebounds.
Also scoring for the Lady Indians were: Madison Colliver (3), Taylor Moberly (2), Trista Rhodes (4), Whitney Earley (2) and Hannah Kibler (4).
Also for HHS, Kibler had four assists and Rhodes had three steals.
Leading BHS were Brown with 20 points and Watkins with 14 points.
"They (Blanchester) got good shots and executed well," Moberly said.
The Lady Indians will play again on Saturday night as they travel to take on South Central Ohio League and Highland County rival McClain at MHS.
