HILLSBORO — The Hillsboro varsity wrestling teams have a way of making their South Central Ohio League dual matches on the interesting side, to say the least.
Hillsboro needed a majority decision on the final match to earn enough points to defeat the Miami Trace Panthers Thursday evening, and they got what they needed when Stephen Limbacher won with the needed technical fall in the final match, by a 15-0 score, propelling the Tribe to a 32-30 SCOL win.
Hillsboro also honored their seniors on Senior Night. Seniors include D.J. Davis, Josh Bice, Stephen Limbacher, Kaleb West and Lee Browning.
"Stephen's match at the end was huge for us," Hillsboro coach Nate Horne said. "He knew what we needed, and he went out and got the job done.
"All of our seniors … we have great captains in D.J., Josh and Stephen. They are great kids and do everything that is asked of them. Kaleb wrestled tough and was our only sectional champion last year. Lee, this is his first year, but he's a tough, great kid. He doesn't miss practices, and he got into wrestling from his martial arts background."
In their first matches of the night, HHS trampled the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles 64-0. MT also defeated MP 58-18 to go 1-1 on the night.
As far as SCOL standings in the dual meets, Washington went 6-0, and currently HHS is 3-1 with a dual meet against Clinton-Massie and London still remaining on the schedule. MT is 4-2 in the SCOL this season.
"We can't overlook Clinton-Massie and London, but we are still in the thick of it in the SCOL," Horne said. "It's been quite awhile since we beat Miami Trace, so this keeps us in the race. We still have a lot of tough matches ahead of us."
As for the Miami Trace and Hillsboro matches, Dillon Hunick began the matches by winning with a pin fall at the 2:56 mark in the 138-pound weight class.
Bowers of MT followed with a win over Kaleb West of Hillsboro by a decision of 8-5.
In a bit of strategy, the Panthers made a late match change, pitting Litteral against Hillsboro's Craig Jackson at 152 lb. class, and it ended up going in favor of HHS as Jackson maneuvered all around the mat, winning via decision at 12-6.

MT won again as Jones won a 10-7 decision over Darian Schumacher at 182.
