The Highland County Thunder 16-and-under baseball team ended their 2012 season this past weekend at Shaffer Park in the Tournament of Champions with a second-place finish, following a 4-0 loss to the Flash 16U team from Hamersville.

The Thunder took first place in their division with an 8-0 league record and an overall record of 17-12-1 this summer.

This is the third season for the Thunder, and they would like to thank their sponsors for their support. Those who have given to the team are Barna Log Homes, Blevins Signs, Highland Auto Service, Southern Ohio Appraisers, Magulac Fleet Service, Pizza Hut, Cawood Carpet, Tim Boler Construction and Southern Hills Community Bank as well as many of the parents and grandparents who supported them with their presence and donations all season.

The Thunder Team will be 17U next year and due to its record will advance in the SWOL league to a new division next season.

The 9U team that began this season had a great start this year and finished in second place in their division. There will be a new 16U team forming this fall to begin play in the spring 2013 season.

The coaches hope there will be new age levels added to the organization as others see the benefit of select baseball. Anyone with interest in tryouts, general information about how to form a team or about the Thunder organization or SWOL (Southwest Ohio League) should contact John Goldsberry at (937) 393-2509. Anyone interested in the 16U team forming for Spring 2013 should contact Ed Puckett at (937) 393-3584.
