Highland County Thunder 16U baseball begins season

Highland County Thunder’s 16 U team has started league play for 2012 summer season and are creating loud rumbles with a 3-0 record in Southwest Ohio League.
This is the third season for the select team and their best start so far with 4-1 overall record. They will be traveling to Mason Saturday for a league game with the Cincinnati Bulldogs and will host a Sunday doubleheader at their home field at Lynchburg-Clay High School with Mason Renegades.
This year, the team is made up of 13 players. Most of the players play ball for their local high schools, but come together for the summer for select ball with Southwest Ohio League. From Hillsboro, we have Seth Meyer, Ty Crum, Zack Stacey and Braden Puckett; from Lynchburg-Clay High School, Chaz Lanier, Scott Cawood, Ryan Inman, Josh Bauer and Gage Waits; from Fairfield High School, Taylor Cox, Wyatt Crothers, Isaiah Liggins, and CJ Alexander; and from Ripley Union Lewis, Jamie Skinner.
Coaches John Goldsberry, Jeff Bauer, and Rex Crothers look for a great season for the boys as they currently are in first place in the Southwest Ohio League, one of the biggest Select leagues in the country.

After dropping their opening game 13-7, they have four straight wins, beating Edgewood in a doubleheader 17-8 and 15-5. The following week they traveled to Mason to play the Cincinnati Redstockings and walked away with a 13-1 win. Two days later, they traveled to Cleves, Ohio to take on the Cincinnati Hawks and came away with their fourth straight win, 10-0.
Lanier is 8-for-15 with seven RBIs. Cox is 6-for-12 with five RBIs, followed by Crothers at 8-for-11 with five RBIs. Cawood is 7-for-14 with seven RBIs, and Crum is 3-for-7 with two RBIs. Meyer is 2-for-7 with one RBI and pitched a two-hitter recently. Alexander is 2-for-7 with an RBI, Skinner is 4-for-11 with four RBIs, and Bauer is 4-for-11 with one RBI. Inman and Liggins are each 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Thunder team has had some good pitching and defense and is excited about this season. They played the Red Stockings (Black) Elite Team on Wednesday and came away with a 10-10 tie after battling back from a 7-1 deficit. The coaches have a clinic coming up and several tournaments. The Thunder Organization started a 9 U team this year, coached by Jason Young and Brian Broyles. Their home field is in Buford. They also are having a winning season with a 3-1-1 record in the SWOL league and are 11-8-1 overall.
