Duke’s Jimmy Romano drafted by Reds

Duke University right-hander Fran Oschell III and righty Jimmy Romano were selected on Tuesday as the MLB First-year Player Draft concluded in Arlington. Oschell was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 12th round, while Romano was drafted in the 16th round by the Cincinnati Reds.
Duke's total number of selections in the MLB Draft moves to 101 all-time and 46 under head coach Chris Pollard. The five selections in the 2024 MLB Draft are the most for the Blue Devils since 2022 and the three picks in the first 10 rounds are the most since the 2021 draft.
A called-upon relief arm for the Blue Devils, Romano appeared in 45 games in the past two seasons of action. In his two seasons on the mound, the Roseland, N.J., native produced a 2-2 record on the bump and posted a 4.58 ERA in his career. He has produced 47 strikeouts in 37.1 innings of work, holding opponents to a .257 batting average.
