COLUMBUS — Day one of the 2012 OHSAA Division II State Track and Field Championships is under way at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus on the campus of The Ohio State University.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Hillsboro senior Leah Pence finished in 16th place overall and eighth in the first heat of the prelims with a time of 21.36. Midway during her race, Pence was tripped up on a hurdle.
[[In-content Ad]]Pence entered the state competition with a time of 15.95 at the Athens regional last weekend.
In other events:
• Sophomore Megan Overberg (HHS) finished 12th overall and seventh in the second heat preliminaries for the girls 400 meter dash with a time of 60.54.
• Senior Luis Rivas (MHS) finished ninth overall and fifth in the second heat preliminaries for the boys 400 meter dash with a time of 50.54, qualifying him for the finals tomorrow afternoon.
• Freshman Hannah Kibler (HHS) finished 14th overall and seventh in the first heat preliminaries of the girls 200 meter dash with a time of 26.55.
• The girls 4x400 meter relay team of sophomore Hannah Opst, junior Autumn Hacker, junior Brittany Ferrell and sophomore Megan Overberg finished 14th overall and seventh in the first heat preliminaries with at time of 4.11.70.
HHS junior Jarrod Hart will race tomorrow afternoon in the 800 meter run.
