38th Annual Tournament of Champions begins

HILLSBORO — The 38th annual baseball Tournament of Champions is currently under way as the Highland County Thunder 9U and the Southern Hills Bandits kicked things off with the first game of the tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday.
At 10 a.m. the original tournament began as Nate Keiser, the first great-grandson of Dick Shaffer, whom Shaffer Park is named after tossed out the ceremonial first pitch before the Clark Dentistry and Scioto Valley Vipers began the 12U tournament on Dan W. Reed Field.
The Tournament of Champions has four age brackets with teams in 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U as the tournament is scheduled to be completed July 25 or 26 depending on outcomes of games.
There are a total of 34 teams in the four age brackets this year.
