Wednesday night saw the Whiteoak Wildcats and Green Bobcats play baseball the way it was intended, according to WHS head coach Chris Veidt.

The two teams battled tough, and it took until the Wildcats scored the only run of the game for them to take the lead for good, defeating Green, 1-0 in a non-conference battle at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe.

The Wildcats’ lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning started when Zander Roades reached second base on a two-out double. Next, Kaden Moon-Stone tripled against Green, scoring Roades for the 1-0 lead that lasted through the final out being recorded.

“This was a good old, good one,” Veidt said. “This is the way baseball is intended to be played, one hour and 23 minutes. Izayah Clift pitched a masterpiece, allowing one infield hit and striking out 10.

“Zander Roades’ two-out double, followed by Kaden Moon-Stone’s two-out triple in the fifth, were clutch.”

Izayah Clift was the winning pitcher for WHS, pitching seven innings, allowing no runs on one hit and no walks, with 10 strikeouts.

“We pitched our fourth straight shutout and defensively stayed out of the big inning for the seventh straight game,” Veidt said. “It was a winning recipe with good pitching, defense and timely hitting.”

Whiteoak had two players gain all four hits on Wednesday, with Roades going 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Moon-Stone was 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI.

The win improves Whiteoak to 9-1 overall, and they are currently 4-0 in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference.
