Whiteoak Lady ’Cats defeat Ripley; fall to North Adams, Williamsburg

The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats on Jan. 12 lost on the road to the host North Adams Lady Green Devils, 70-38 at North Adams High School. 

The Southern Hills Athletic Conference game saw WHS score six points in the first quarter and eight points in the second, while NAHS had a 23-point first quarter and 22 points in the second frame. 

The second half included North Adams scoring 10 points in the third and 15 points in the fourth quarter. The Whiteoak second half included a 17-point third frame and seven points in the fourth quarter. 

WHS was led in the scoring column by Kyra Boyd with 16 points, as she made five two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and she was 3-of-6 from the free-throw line. Boyd added eight rebounds, one assist and two steals.

Jillian Lucas totaled 10 points off three two points, and she was 4-of-5 from the free-throw line, plus she added eight rebounds and three assists. 

Scoring three points each were Miley Walker (a 3-pointer, two rebounds) and Chanel Captain (3-of-4 FT-line, two rebounds, one steal). 

Dinah Ames (2-of-2 FT-line, five rebounds, one assist, three steals, one block) and Peyton Gobin (a two-pointer) each scored two points. 

Taelyn Shriver and Aveah Captain each scored one point off a free throw as both players were 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Captain added one assist and one steal. Ella Howard finished with one rebound, one steal and one assist. Jada Combs finished with one steal.

WHS totals were nine two-pointers, two 3-pointers and they were 14-of-21 from the free-throw line. 

North Adams was led by Tenzlee Burns with 19 points, Emma Prine with 18 points and Jaida Harrison with 11 points.

On Jan. 14, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats earned a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win over the host Ripley Lady Blue Jays, 51-41 at Ripley High School. 

The conference game started off with a 10-0 first frame led by Whiteoak as Jillian Lucas scored four points in the quarter, while Kyra Boyd, Peyton Gobin and Ella Howard each scored two points. 

RHS came back with a 12-11 second quarter as WHS had a 3-pointer from Dinah Ames, four points off two baskets by Howard, and two points each scored by Boyd and Gobin as Whiteoak led 21-12 at halftime. 

WHS in the third quarter scored 17 points and Ripley had 11 points scored in the quarter. This quarter for Whiteoak included a 3-pointer from Howard, a 3-pointer by Ames, a 3-pointer and two-point basket scored by Boyd, and two points each from Miley Walker, Lucas and Gobin. 

In the fourth quarter, the Lady ’Cats scored 13 points and Ripley had 18 points. For WHS in the fourth, Lucas scored four baskets for eight points, Boyd made three free throws for three points, and Chanel Captain made a basket for two points. 

Lucas was the leading scorer for Whiteoak with 14 points, making six two-point baskets and she was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Lucas also added five rebounds and three steals.

Boyd totaled 12 points with three two pointers, one 3-pointer, and she went 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Boyd also had 11 rebounds for a double-double, plus three assists, one steal and one block.

Howard ended with nine points off three two-point buckets and a 3-pointer, plus four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Ames (four rebounds, one steal) and Gobin (three rebounds) each ended the game with six points as Ames sank two 3-pointers in the win, while Gobin had two two-point baskets and she was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. 

Walker (one rebound, two assists) and Captain (three rebounds, two assists, three steals) each scored two points in the win off two-point baskets. Savannah Ferguson finished with one steal. 

As a team, WHS totaled 16 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers, and they were 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. 

Ripley was led in scoring by Brooklyn Manning with 16 points and Raquel Hackney with 11 points.

Whiteoak was back on their home court on Thursday, Jan. 15 for a non-conference game against the Williamsburg Lady Wildcats, falling by a 77-50 score. 

Senior Kyra Boyd finished with 23 points. Whiteoak’s leading scorer this season, Boyd against Williamsburg totaled six two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and she was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Boyd had a double-double by adding 13 rebounds, plus two steals.  

Next was Jillian Lucas finishing with 13 points, finishing with four two-point baskets, and she went 5-of-6 in her free-throw attempts. Lucas also had six rebounds and one assist. 

Ella Howard totaled nine points off three two pointers and a 3-pointer, along with four rebounds, one assist and three steals. 

Scoring two points each were Chanel Captain (a two-pointer, three rebounds, two assists, two steals) and Peyton Gobin (2-of-2 FT-line, two rebounds). Dinah Ames finished with one point off a free-throw conversion, plus she added five rebounds, one steal and one block. WHS also had one rebound from Miley Walker and one rebound by Marley Parsons. 

WHS totaled 14 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers, and they were 13-of-16 from the free-throw line. 

Williamsburg was led by Peyton Jones with 23 points, Lucy Watts with 13 points and Addison Smith with 11 points. 

For the game, Williamsburg made 20 two-pointers, eight 3-pointers and they were 13-of-20 from the free-throw line. 

As for the quarter scoring, Williamsburg in the first half scored 18 points in the first quarter and 25 points in the second frame. From there, they had 13 points in the third and 21 points in the fourth quarter. 

Whiteoak in the first frame scored 11 points and nine points in the second quarter. The second half for Whiteoak included a 15-point third quarter and 15 points in the fourth quarter. 

At halftime, Williamsburg led 43-20. 

After these three games, Whiteoak now stands at 5-3 in the SHAC Div. II standings and 7-4 overall. 

Next for Whiteoak is an away non-conference game on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at Georgetown.
