State Senator Shane Wilkin (R-Hillsboro) honored Landen Eyre, an upcoming senior at Whiteoak High School, for winning the Division III State Championship in the 3200-meter run.
"Landen has truly made Whiteoak High School and the whole community proud of him for this exceptional achievement," Wilkin said. "He has overcome countless challenges, including not having track facilities at the school, to succeed in the sport he loves. I'm excited to recognize him and to see what his senior season will have in store for him."
Eyre ran an impressive time of 9:10.07 in his championship race, which is a school record. His win led to him becoming the first state champion in Whiteoak's history. Eyre also finished third in the 1600-meter run and was a major part of the 14th place 4x800 relay team for the Wildcats.
Eyre is also part of the school's cross-country team. This past fall, he was the runner up at the state meet, and Eyre plans on coming back in his senior season to claim the cross-country state title for Whiteoak.
