Mustangs lose in extra innings against Eastern Warriors

Going into extra innings, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs suffered a tough loss on the road against the Eastern Warriors, as they fell in eight innings to the hosts by a 6-5 score in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play.

Eastern scored first in the bottom of the second, but in the top of the third LCHS scored three runs, while the Warriors added two runs in the bottom of the third for a 3-3 score.

LCHS broke the tie with a one-run top of the fourth inning, but the Warriors scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 5-4 lead. Lynchburg-Clay tied the score at 5-5 with one run in the top of the fifth.

Neither team scored a run in the sixth or seventh innings, but it was Eastern winning with a run in the bottom of the eighth to seal the SHAC win.

LCHS finished with 11 hits but committed seven errors. Eastern collected 12 hits and committed four errors.

The Mustangs saw Josiah Burns go 2-for-5 with two doubles. Braedon West was 1-for-3 with two runs and two walks.

Cole Wells was 3-for-4 with one run and a walk, while teammate Luke Smith went 1-for-3 with one run, one RBI and his hit was a double.

Christian Flowers drew a walk, and teammate Cody Bell was 1-for-3. There was also Austin Bell finishing 3-for-4 with a double, one run and one RBI. Braydon Oberrecht was hit by a pitch.

Lynchburg-Clay’s pitching allowed just a total of three earned runs in the loss, with Burns pitching 3.2 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks. He totaled three strikeouts on 84 total pitches, 52 for strikes, as he faced 23 batters.

Isaac Eyre also pitched 3.2 innings, where he allowed one earned run on six hits and one walk, finishing with four strikeouts. He threw 56 pitches, 34 for strikes, all while facing 21 batters.

The loss moves LCHS to 0-4 overall this season.
