Lynchburg-Clay softball falls in extra innings to Eastern

Playing a 10-inning game, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs lost a Southern Hills Athletic Conference extra-inning game to the host Eastern Lady Warriors, 5-3 on Thursday, April 2. 

After two scoreless innings, Eastern struck first with a run in the bottom of the third, but the top of the fourth inning saw LCHS take the lead with two runs crossing the plate. 

Eastern tied the score at 2-2 with a run in the bottom of the sixth, and both teams added a run in the seventh inning for a 3-3 score, forcing extra innings. 

Both teams were scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings, but the bottom of the 10th saw EHS gain the win with two runs as Averi Tabor of EHS hit a two-run walk-off home run over the right field fence for the SHAC win over Lynchburg-Clay. 

LCHS finished the game with eight hits and one error, while the Lady Warriors had 12 hits and no errors. 

LC’s Kendra Doss was 2-for-4, and teammate Audrey Barry was also 2-for-4. 

Aubrey Roberts finished 1-for-4 with one run and a walk. Jazmine Brown went 1-for-4 with a double, one RBI and a walk. Noel Barnhill finished 1-for-5, and Kami Collins was 1-for-4. 

Sadie Kuipers finished with a run and a walk, while Reese Ruble collected an RBI. 

Steals were grabbed by Roberts, Barry, Baylee McClain, Brown and Kuipers. 

Barnhill was charged with the loss in the circle with three earned runs and 10 strikeouts in eight innings. Roberts pitched 1.2 inning with two earned runs. 

Eastern was led at the plate by Maddison Simpton at 3-for-4 with one runs, one RBI and a walk, while Addison Arey was 2-for-5 with a run, with one run. Tabor went 2-for-5 with one run and three RBI along with her two-run home run to win the game. 

Also with two hits for EHS was Isabella Spires at 2-for-4 with a run and a triple. 

Tabor was also the winning pitcher, going 6.0 innings with two hits, one earned run, two walks and eight strikeouts. 

LCHS now stands at 2-3 overall. Next for LCHS is an away game Friday, April 3 against Johnstown-Monroe.
