Saturday was a big day for both the boys and girls soccer programs at Lynchburg-Clay as they went on the road to open the 2025 season, returning home with both teams winning against host Minford.

The Lady Mustangs won by a 2-1 score in the non-conference opener (Aug. 16), avenging two losses against Minford from last season, which happened in the season opener in ’24 (also a 2-1 score) and they had their season ended by Minford last year in the regional semifinals (falling by a 3-1 score).

As for the current Lady Mustangs, they gained the win with two second half goals, trailing by a 1-0 score at halftime. In the second half LCHS tied the score off a goal from junior Savannah Bell with around 25 minutes left in the game. The game-winning goal came with just under two minutes left in regulation as sophomore Lily Ferguson put the Lady Mustangs ahead by a 2-1 score with a clutch goal.

Junior Willow Smith was credited with an assist in the season-opening win, while senior keeper Caitlyn Collins collected 11 saves against the Lady Falcons.

LCHS totaled nine shots against Minford.

The victory puts Lynchburg-Clay at 1-0 overall this season. Their next game will be on Monday, Aug. 18 on the road in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action against the Peebles Lady Indians at 6:30 p.m.
