Lady Mustangs take home 22-point win over Manchester

Finally getting back onto the court following a winter storm this week, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs traveled to Manchester to face the Lady Greyhounds and returned home with a 22-point victory by defeating the hosts 54-32 for a Southern Hills Athletic Conference victory, Thursday evening.

Lynchburg-Clay wasted little time in taking the lead, as once the first quarter came to a close, Savannah Bell had made three baskets in the frame, as did teammate Ava McLaughlin. Joslyn Rockey made a two-point basket as well, and Madison McMullen scored four points off two baskets int he first quarter. Addy Carraher sank two 3-pointers in the first frame.

Carraher led Lynchburg-Clay in scoring with 11 points, making a total of three 3-pointers and one two-point basket. Bell was next in the scoring column for the game with 10 points, collecting five two-point baskets in the win.

With LCHS holding a 24-13 lead after the first quarter, LCHS outscored the Lady Greyhounds, 9-4 in the second quarter as Bell and Lily Ferguson each made a two-point basket, while Rockey scored five points in the quarter, including a 3-pointer.

Once halftime arrived, the Lady Mustangs held a 33-17 lead.

LCHS scored nine more points in the third quarter, as Manchester led the frame with 14 points in the third.

Lynchburg-Clay in the third had two points each from Bell, McLaughlin and McMullen, along with a 3-pointer by Carraher.

The victory was sealed in the fourth quarter with LCHS outscoring Manchester 12-1, as Ferguson scored four points off two baskets, Bella Burns made a free-throw, Rockey sank a basket, McMullen made a two-point basket and free throw, and Carraher also scored two points off a basket.

Other final scoring totals in the win for LCHS was McMullen with nine points, finishing with four two-point baskets, and she was also 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Also with nine points was Rockey, as she made three two-point baskets and a 3-pointer.

Ava McLaughlin ended the game with eight points for LCHS, making four two-point baskets. Ferguson totaled six points in the win off three two-point baskets, and scoring one point was Burns.

Manchester was led in the scoring column by Faith Scott with 13 points, making two 3-pointers, and she finished 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

The win improves LCHS to an overall record of 4-7 with a 2-5 mark in the SHAC Division I standings. Manchester moves to an overall record of 3-11, with a SHAC mark of 0-7 in the Division II standings.
