Lady Mustangs gallop past Paint Valley

On Thursday (Dec. 28), the non-conference showdown between the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs and the Paint Valley Lady Bearcats belonged to the visitors, as LCHS won by a 42-point margin, defeating the host Lady Bearcats, 72-30. 

Macy Etienne, Addison West and Jade Massey combined for 63 of Lynchburg-Clay’s 72 points, as Etienne and West each scored 20 or more points. 

Etienne led LCHS with 25 points as she made five 3-pointers and connected with five two-point field goals, plus she added five rebounds, five assists and 11 steals for a double-double. Etienne also finished with two blocks. 

West finished the game with 20 points, with her points coming off one 3-pointer, eight two-point baskets and she made a free throw. West also collected six rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block. 

Jade Massey finished the game with 18 points. Massey contributed to the scoring effort with two 3-pointers and six two-point baskets. She also ended the game with eight rebounds, five assists, four steals and four blocks. 

LCHS also had four points scored by Allie Waits (six rebounds, one assist, two steals), three points from Noel Barnhill (two rebounds, one assist), and Madison McMullen with two points (five rebounds, two assists, one steal). 

Also for LCHS, Joslyn Rockey totaled two rebounds, two assists and one steal. 

As a team, the Lady Mustangs totaled eight 3-pointers, 34 rebounds, 19 assists, 20 steals and seven blocks, plus committed 16 turnovers. 

In the game, LCHS led 13-6 after the first quarter, and after outscoring the Lady Bearcats 14-9 in the second quarter, it was the Lady Mustangs leading 27-15. 

The second half saw LCHS score 26 points in the third, while PVHS added nine points to their totals, and in the fourth quarter it was LCHS winning the frame 19-6.

LCHS now stands at 7-3 overall, and in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference Division I standings they are 5-1, tied for first place with North Adams. 

Next for LCHS is a SHAC game on Thursday, Jan. 4 at home vs. the Manchester Lady Greyhounds at 7:30 p.m.
