Lady Mustangs fall in regular-season game to Piketon

Playing in a regular-season non-conference game on Monday — two days before they get back to tournament action — the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs lost to the visiting Piketon Redstreaks by a 10-4 score. 

Piketon scored first with two runs in the top of the first, followed by two more runs in the top of the third. LCHS cut the deficit to one run with a three-run bottom of the third inning for a 4-3 score. 

Each team was scoreless in the fourth, and after PHS scored two runs in the top of the fifth, while LCHS scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the inning it was Piketon leading 6-4. 

Piketon added one run in the top of the sixth, followed by three more runs in the seventh inning for the final 10-4, six-run victory by the Redstreaks. 

PHS finished the game with nine hits and one error, while LCHS totaled 10 hits and three errors. 

Piketon had three players with two hits each as they were Aubrey Heath (2-for-3, three runs, two walks), Jaylin Forbes (2-for-5, two runs, two RBI, one walk) and Briar Penwell (2-for-3, two runs, two RBI, one walk). Addy Blakeman finished with one hit and two RBI. 

Lynchburg-Clay (14-10) finished the game with two players having two-hit games, and they were Sadie Kuipers and Noel Barnhill. Kuipers was 2-for-4 with one run. Barnhill finished 2-for-4 with a run, one RBI and a double. 

Audrey Barry was 1-for-3 with a walk, while teammate Aubrey Roberts finished 1-for-4 with two runs. 

Jazmine Brown went 1-for-3 with a walk and steal. Lynchburg-Clay also had Kendra Doss finish 1-for-3 with two RBI with her hit being a double. Kami Collins ended the day at 1-for-3, and Reese Ruble was also 1-for-3. 

Barnhill pitched seven innings, finishing with six strikeouts. 

LCHS now stands at 14-10 overall. 

Lynchburg-Clay is scheduled to play in the district semifinals Wednesday, May 20 vs. Portsmouth West at 6 p.m. in a game to be played at Unioto High School.
