Barnhill earns 500th strikeout; LCHS falls to Piketon

Playing as the home team at the home field of their opponent, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs were defeated by the Piketon Redstreaks, 9-6 at PHS in their non-conference game on Friday evening.
The game was originally scheduled to be played at LCHS, but due to field conditions the game switched locations. In the game, a milestone was set as LCHS senior pitcher Noel Barnhill recorded her 500th career strikeout.
Piketon was first to score a run, taking a 1-0 lead when the first inning was completed, and both teams scored two runs each in the third inning for a 3-2 lead for Piketon.
LCHS took a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning as PHS scored one run in the top of the inning, but in the bottom of the fourth the Lady Mustangs tacked on three runs.
Piketon didn’t trail for long by gaining a five-run inning in the top of the fifth, as LCHS added one final run in the bottom of the inning.
PHS finished with nine hits and one error, while LCHS had 10 hits and three errors.
Jazmine Brown for LCHS was 3-for-3 with one run, a double and a steal. Sadie Kuipers was also 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Barnhill was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Kendra Doss finished 1-for-2 with one run, a double and a walk. Audrey Roberts was 1-for-3 with one run and two RBI. Reese Ruble went 1-for-2 with one run and a walk.
Barnhill was charged with the pitching loss, going five innings, with five earned runs and seven strikeouts.
LCHS is now 2-1 overall this season.
Next for LCHS is a home SHAC game on Tuesday, March 31 against the Fairfield Lady Lions (3-2) at 5 p.m.
