It was a wild ride for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs on Friday night in their regular-season finale against their rival Whiteoak, as they overcame a 16-point halftime deficit and scored the only points in overtime to win by a 35-33 final score.

Whiteoak (5-8, 5-16) led early by an 11-2 score after the first quarter, and at halftime they built a 16-point lead at 19-3.

The second half went more in favor of the visiting Mustangs with them outscoring the Wildcats 22-5 in the third, and after the fourth quarter saw WHS win the frame at 9-8, that left the score tied at 33 at the end of regulation.

LCHS (6-7, 10-12) scored two points in the OT period (a basket by Denver Clinton), and WHS was held scoreless, giving the Mustangs the two-point win.

Lynchburg-Clay was led in scoring by Clinton with 12 points, followed by Cody Bell with nine points and Josiah Burns with eight points (he had the lone two-point basket in the first half for LCHS). Trevor Niehaus totaled four points, and Austin Bell scored two points.

Whiteoak was led by Sawyer Blair and Weston Blair with nine points each, while the rest of the WHS scoring included Zander Roades with seven points, Brady Brandenburg with six points and Aiden Crowe with two points.

Next for No. 19 seeded LCHS is a Division III SE District Sectional Semifinal game on Monday, Feb. 19 on the road at Zane Trace High School against the No. 14 ZT Pioneers at 7 p.m.

No. 15 seeded Whiteoak plays again Tuesday, Feb. 20 in a Division IV SE District Sectional Semifinal game at home against No. 18 seeded Reedsville Eastern at 7 p.m.
