Lady Mustangs earn county rivalry win over Whiteoak

The Highland County showdown between the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs and Whiteoak Lady Wildcats saw the host LCHS team defeat their Southern Hills Athletic Conference counterpart Whiteoak, 55-47 Thursday at LCHS.

The county rivalry battle between the Lady Mustangs and the Lady ’Cats saw LCHS lead 14-13 after the first frame, and after WHS outscored LCHS 16-13 in the second, it was the Lady ’Cats leading at halftime, 29-27.

Lynchburg-Clay’s second half was a different story as they scored 18 points in the third frame and 10 points in the fourth quarter, while WHS scored nine points in the third frame and nine more points in the fourth quarter. 

WHS played without leading scorer — and new 1,000-point scorer — Jaylie Parr. 

Addison West totaled 20 points to lead the way for Lynchburg-Clay. She collected her points with five two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and she finished 4-of-6 with her free-throw opportunities. 

LC senior Macy Etienne — also a 1,000-point scorer — finished with 19 points, as she made four two-point baskets, two 3-pointers (both in the first half) and she finished 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Jade Massey was next with six points, as she too is a 1,000-point scorer in her career. She finished the game with two two-point baskets, and she was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. 

Also with six points for LCHS was Madison McMullen, followed by two points each by Joslyn Rockey and Ella Barry.

As a team, LCHS totaled 14 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers, and they were 15-of-19 from the free-throw line. 

WHS was led by Kylee Hamm with 13 points, as she totaled four two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and she went 2-of-4 from the free-throw line. 

Bri Hill and Lydia Carr each finished with 10 points for WHS. Hill made four shots, those being two 3-pointers and two two-point baskets. Carr collected her points with two 3-pointers and two two-point baskets as well.

Kelsey Monteith made two 3-pointers for six points for the Lady ’Cats, and Addison Roberts also scored six points with two two-point baskets, and two made free throws. Addy Hauke finished the WHS scoring with two points. 

WHS as a team totaled 11 two-point baskets, seven 3-pointers and they were 4-of-8 from the free-throw line.

LCHS now stands at 9-1 in the SHAC Div. I standings (second place) and 12-4 overall. WHS moves to 8-4 in the SHAC Div. II standings (second place) and 13-7 overall.
