Lynchburg-Clay shuts out Fairfield en route to SHAC girls soccer championship

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs are the Southern Hills Athletic Conference champions for a third consecutive season, winning Friday night at home against the Fairfield Lady Lions by a 4-0 score.

In winning the 2024 SHAC girls soccer championship, LCHS extended their conference non-loss streak (wins/ties) to 98 consecutive games, all coached by Dennis West. In that span, LCHS has a SHAC record of 90-0-8, with the streak starting during the 2010 season.

In the current three-year championship streak, LCHS is 17-0-2, as this is the second consecutive year the Lady Mustangs have finished 5-0-1 in the conference standings.

On Friday night at Lynchburg-Clay High School the four-goal win, senior Aubrey Slack scored two goals, while sophomore Baylee McClain and senior Miranda Smith also scored a goal apiece.

LCHS totaled three assists from sophomore Savannah Bell, sophomore Addie Cordrey and Slack.

The Lady Mustangs totaled 14 shots in the game.

At goal for Lynchburg-Clay, senior Allie Waits totaled two saves. At goal for Fairfield was senior Claire Newkirk, who finished with three saves.

This season in SHAC games, Lynchburg-Clay won at Ripley with a 9-0 score, followed by a 1-1 tie against Fayetteville. The tie was followed by a win at North Adams by a 5-0 score, a 4-0 win against Eastern and a 10-0 win vs. Peebles.

In SHAC games this season, the Lady Mustangs outscored their six opponents 33-1 with five shutouts.

The win also improves LC’s overall record to 8-5-1 this season. Fairfield is currently in second place with a SHAC record of 4-1-0 with an overall record of 11-3-0.

Next for LCHS is a non-conference game Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Blanchester with a 7 p.m. start. From there, LCHS has a game scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 10 vs. Western Brown at 7 p.m., and they will end their regular season on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Grandview Heights with a noon start.

The Lady Lions fell to county rival McClain, 3-2 Monday night. Fairfield has two regular-season games remaining this week, starting with a home game vs. Jackson at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10. FHS wraps up the regular season on Friday, Oct. 11 in a SHAC match against North Adams at home, starting at 6:45 p.m.
