LC Mustangs earn wins against Fayetteville and Fairfield; fall to Unioto

DODSONVILLE — On Friday (April 11), the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs defended their home baseball diamond in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play by defeating the Fayetteville Rockets 11-0 in five innings on a cold and windy day at LCHS.
The Mustangs scored runs in the four innings they were at the plate, starting with two runs in the bottom of the first, followed by one run in the second. Then came a seven-run third inning for a 10-0 lead, and the Mustangs added one final run in the bottom of the fourth.
LCHS finished the game with two hits and committed no errors, while they showed great patience at the plate with 14 walks. Fayetteville totaled five hits and committed one error.
Josiah Burns was 1-of-1 at the plate with one hit, one RBI, three steals and two walks. Also with a hit was Cody Bell at 1-for-1 with two RBI and two walks.
LCHS had Braedon West score one walk, add one steal and also walk once, while Cole Wells totaled one run and collected two walks.
Tanner Roberts for the Mustangs collected one RBI and had one walk. Teammate Christian Flowers finished with one run and two walks. Quin Wells scored one run and forced a walk in the win.
The Mustangs also had saw Elam Faust finish with a run scored and was hit by a pitch. Trevor Niehaus scored three runs, three steals and he also drew three walks.
Flowers was the winning pitcher, tossing a five-inning shutout on five hits and no walks with seven strikeouts. Flowers finished with 69 pitches, 45 for strikes.

On Wednesday, April 9, the Mustangs defeated the Fairfield Lions on the road by a 3-0 score in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action.
For the game, LCHS totaled six hits snd had no errors, while their rival Fairfield finished with one hit and one error.
LCHS scored their runs with one in the top of the third and two more rounds in the top of the sixth inning.
The Mustangs had two players with two hits each, as Cole Wells went 2-for-2 with one RBI and one walk. Quin Wells was 2-for-3 with two RBI, as his hits were a double and a triple.
Josiah Burns was 1-for-3 with a steal, and Tanner Roberts finished 1-for-3 with two steals. Kristian Beachy drew a walk and scored a run, while Asher Faust scored a run, collected a steal and walked once.
Wells was the winning pitcher, allowing no runs on one hit and no walks with 11 strikeouts.
Fairfield’s lone hit was off the bat of Corbin Willey, who was 1-for-2 with a double. Also for the Lions, Zach Ahsaruk had a steal.
Blaine Fauber was charged with the loss on the mound, allowing three earned runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

Saturday (April 12) the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs lost a non-conference home game against the Unioto Shermans by a 5-1 score at LCHS for just their second loss of the season.
Both teams scored a run in the first inning, and UHS took the lead in the top of the third with another run. UHS broke away from LCHS with a three-run fifth inning for the 5-1 lead.
Unioto for the game totaled eight hits and committed one error, while the Mustangs had five hits and one error.
Josiah Burns finished 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI with his hit being the lone run of the game for LCHS, hitting a home run in the bottom of the first inning.

Cole Wells finished 1-for-3 with one RBI. Also for the Mustangs Christian Flowers finished 1-for-2 with one RBI. Trevor Niehaus ended the day at 1-for-3. Braedon West forced two walks for the Mustangs.
LCHS had three pitchers in the game with West allowing five earned runs on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Niehaus walked two batters without recording an out, and Tanner Roberts pitched two innings with no runs, hits or walks allowed with two strikeouts.
LCHS now stands at 6-2 overall.
