Fairfield Lady Lions gain SHAC win over Lynchburg-Clay

For the first time the season, the Fairfield Lady Lions earned a win, and not just any win, as their victory on Thursday evening was a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win against a Highland County rival.

Fairfield defeated the host Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs 37-32 at LCHS on Thursday, and did so without one of their top scorers, as Meri Jackson didn’t play due to injury.

As for the game, Fairfield trailed the Lady Mustangs 14-13 at the conclusion of the first quarter, with LCHS having scoring from Addy Carraher with 10 points in the frame, including two 3-pointers and two two-point baskets. The first frame also had two points each from Madison McMullen and Joslyn Rockey.

FHS in the first quarter had two points from Isabelle Hale, a 3-pointer by Rilee Quickle, two 3-pointers for six points by Kassi Miller and two points by Vivian Henninger.

In the second quarter, the Lady Lions had seven points in the frame, with a 3-pointer by Hale, plus two points each from Miller and Henninger. LCHS in the second quarter also scored seven points, with Savannah Bell, Rockey and Carraher each scoring two points, while McMullen added one point.

At the half, LCHS led 21-20.

In the third frame, Fairfield won the quarter at 9-3 with LC’’s points coming from McMullen with a two-point basket and a made free throw by Rockey. Fairfield’s nine-point third frame consisted of a 3-pointer from Miller, four points from Hale with two two-point baskets, and a free throw each from Quickle and Henninger.

Each team scored eight points in the fourth quarter as Miller made another 3-pointer for the Lady Lions, plus Fairfield also had three made free throws from Quickle and two free throws made by Hale.

LCHS in the fourth quarter had five points from Lily Ferguson off two two-point baskets and a free throw, a two-point basket by Carraher and a free throw from McMullen.

LCHS was led in scoring by Carraher with 14 points, followed by six points from McMullen, five points by Rockey, five points from Ferguson and two points by Bell.

The Lady Lions were led by Miller with 14 points, Hale with 11 points, Quickle with seven points and Henninger with five points.

The loss sends LCHS to an overall record of 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the SHAC.

Fairfield improves to 1-4 in the SHAC and 1-7 overall.

FHS will play again Saturday, Dec. 21 on the road at Wheelersburg in non-conference play at 1 p.m.

LCHS is scheduled to play again Monday, Dec. 30 at home versus the Paint Valley Lady Bearcats at 7:30 p.m.
