Lions gain SHAC road victory over Ripley
The Fairfield Lions earned a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win on Friday night, winning their second game of the season in as many chances by defeating the host Ripley Blue Jays, 55-40.
Fairfield scored 11 points in the first frame, followed by 15 points in the second for a 26-22 lead at halftime, as Ripley scored 10 in the first and 12 in the second quarter.
FHS came out of the locker room with a 13-point third frame and 16-point fourth quarter to seal the win, as Ripley scored eight in the third and 10 in the fourth.
The Lions had three players score double figures, with Logan McIntosh totaling 16 points, making eight two-point baskets. Next was Brody Smith with 15 points, totaling five two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and he was 2-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Griffin Friend scored 11 points for the Lions with four two-point buckets and a 3-pointer.
The Lions also had six points from Caleb Barrera (three two-point baskets), four points by Quentin McIntosh (one two-point basket and 2-for-4 from the free-throw line) and three points from Caleb Rice (one two-point basket and 1-of-1 from the free-throw line).
In all for the Lions, they totaled 22 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and they were 5-of-12 from the free-throw line for the game.
Ripley was led by Marcus Huff with 12 points.
The win improves the Lions to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the SHAC.

Lady Mustangs drop non-conference game at Green
Saturday afternoon the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs lost a non-conference road game against the host Green Lady Bobcats, 57-40 as the third quarter proved to be the biggest difference in the game.
In the game-deciding third frame, LCHS was outscored 23-6, where Green went from a 21-20 halftime lead to a 44-26 advantage.
The fourth frame LCHS outscored Green 14-13. In the first half, both teams scored 10 points in the first quarter, and GHS won the second frame at 11-10.
For the Lady Mustangs, they were led in the scoring column by Lily Ferguson with nine points, as she finished with two two-point baskets and was 5-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Savannah Bell and Joslyn Rockey each scored seven points, with Bell and Rockey each making a 3-pointer and two two-point baskets.
Allie Waits sank two 3-pointers for six points, and also with six points in the game was Addy Carraher. Also with points for LCHS were Madison McMullen with three points and Ava McLaughlin with two points.
For the game, LCHS totaled nine two-point baskets, four 3-pointers and they were 10-of-16 from the free-throw line.
Leading Green were Abbie Knapp with 22 points and Matti Hayslip with 14 points.
Green totaled 12 two-point baskets, seven 3-pointers and they were 12-of-16 from the free-throw line.
LCHS now stands at 2-2 overall, and they are 1-1 int he SHAC.

Lynchburg-Clay falls at Green
In a tough non-conference game on Saturday evening, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs lost to the host Green Bobcats, 53-45.
At Green High School on Saturday, the Mustangs trailed 10-9 at the end of the first frame, and following a 12-10 second quarter in favor of the home team Bobcats, the Mustangs were down 22-19 at halftime.
The third quarter had the largest scoring differential with Green outscoring the Mustangs 17-9 — an eight-point difference — for a 39-28 score after three quarters.
In the fourth, the Mustangs scored 17 points, while Green scored 14 points to close out the game.
At the top of the scoring column for the Mustangs was Denver Clinton with 16 points, making four two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and he was 2-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Trevor Niehaus totaled nine points, going 1-of-1 in his free-throw attempts and also making four two-point buckets.
Asher Faust totaled six points with two two-point baskets and a 2-of-4 total from the free-throw line, while Elam Faust also scored six points, making a two-point basket, a 3-pointer, and he was 1-of-1 from the free-throw line.
Max Baker finished with four points off two baskets, and scoring two points each were Jay Cordrey and Cody Bell with each sinking one basket.
The loss moves LCHS to 1-2 overall this season, as they are 1-1 in SHAC action.
