Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs are 2024 SHAC boys golf champions

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs boys golf team completed their goal of hoisting the 2024 Southern Hills Athletic Conference championship trophy on Thursday, as they finished the SHAC golf season by dominating the four-day conference tournament, with the final day taking place at the Hillsboro Elks.
This is the first SHAC golf championship for the Mustangs since 2012, as this is only the second time in program history they’ve won a SHAC championship.
LCHS won the event with a four-day score of 635, defeating second-place North Adams, who carded a four-day score of 643, giving the Mustangs an eight-stroke victory.
In third place overall was West Union at 661, followed by Manchester (670), Fairfield (741), Eastern (764), Whiteoak (775), Peebles (778) and Ripley (883).
Lynchburg-Clay’s Saxen Wilkin was the individual SHAC champion with a four-day score of 146, with day scores of 38, 34, 37 and 37.
Nolan Wilkin was sixth place overall, also earning All-SHAC honors with a four-day score of 162 with day scores of 47, 36, 38 and 41.
Braedon West earned All-SHAC honors with an 11th-place overall finish with a total score of 168, as he collected day scores of 39, 43, 43 and 43. Aiden Bene of LCHS also gained All-SHAC honors with a total four-day score of 168, tied with West for an 11th-place finish, with day scores of 41, 49, 39 and 39.
The Mustangs also had a 17th-place overall finish from Jackson West, who scored a 175 in the four-day event with day scores of 42, 46, 45 and 42.
On day four of the event, the winning team was NAHS with a 156 score, followed by Lynchburg-Clay at 159. The rest of the Day 4 scores were: Manchester (164), West Union (169), Fairfield (184), Peebles (190), Eastern (191), Whiteoak (198) and Ripley (223).
As for Highland County’s Fairfield Lions, their four-day individual scores included Otis Cockerill with a four-day score of 177 (46, 49, 41, 41). Brody Fauber carded an overall score of 179 (43, 45, 47, 44), and Van Bennington had a four-day score of 184 (50, 46, 39, 49). Also for FHS, Caleb Barrera scored a total of 205 (49, 55, 51, 50), and Blaine Fauber had a final total of 229 (68, 51, 57, 53).
Whiteoak’s final total scores included: Charlie Starks at 182 (50, 43, 44, 45), Carson Hart at 191 (50, 50, 42, 49), Zander Roades at 203 (48, 50, 52, 53), Camron Storms at 206 (48, 51, 52, 55) and Keian Moon-Stone at 206 (55, 49, 51, 51).
The final All-SHAC team individual scores were: 1, Saxen Wilkin (LCHS) 146; 2, Parker Hayslip (MHS) 150; 3, Connor Young (NAHS) 152; 4, Breestin Schweickart (NAHS), 155; 5, Thomas Barnhart (MHS), 161; 6, Nolan Wilkin (LCHS); 162; 7T, AJ Cooper (WUHS), 163; 7T, Marcus Lynch (EHS), 163; 9, Tegan Knox (WUHS), 165; 10, Calendared Vogler (PHS), 166; 11T, Braedon West (LCHS), 168; 11T, Aiden Bene (LCHS), 168; 13, Caleb DeAtley (NAHS), 170; 14, Sam Griffis (WUHS), 172; 15, Landon McIntosh (WUHS), 173.
Lynchburg-Clay head coach James Walker was named SHAC Coach of the Year.
