HILLSBORO — Scoring 18 points in the first quarter alone, it was evident that Hillsboro junior Tylee Davis was on a mission Wednesday night in the Lady Indians’ Frontier Athletic Conference game against the Chillicothe Lady Cavaliers.

Davis led Hillsboro past Chillicothe 65-18 in a running-clock win, finishing the game with a career-high mark in scoring with 34 points, surpassing her previous career-high mark of 30 points set earlier this year on Dec. 22 against Western Brown.

The Lady Indians junior not only scored 34 points, she finished the game 14-of-20 shooting from the field (70 percent), as she was 5-of-6 from beyond the arc and 1-of-1 from the free-throw line. Not only that, but Davis also collected a double-double with 13 rebounds, along with five assists, six steals and two blocks.

“When Tylee can get going like that, I don’t know how you stop her because she had just five missed shots in the first half,” HHS head coach Heather Storer said. “It is super exciting she can do something like that and do this with seven points in the second half, just locking it in and getting it done in the first half.”

Hillsboro also had 10 points from sophomore Ella Jordan, who made two 3-pointers and had s

ix steals. HHS senior Kobie Miles totaled eight points, five rebounds, one assist and three steals.

The Lady Indians also had four points scored by sophomore Neveah Blair, who sank a 3-pointer, plus was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Blair added two rebounds to her final totals. Scoring three points was sophomore Piper Wilkin, who made a two-point basket and was 1-of-1 from the FT-line. Wilkin also had five rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

Annia Young totaled two points and also had nine rebounds (five offensive), with one assist, one steal and three blocks. Freshman Kylee-Ann Scruggs finished with two points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Fellow freshman Parker Wilkin scored two points and collected one rebound.

As a team, each Hillsboro player in the game scored no less than two points, plus their team totals were 37 rebounds (14 offensive), 15 assists, 19 steals and five blocks.

“Those are the fun ones where you can get everybody in and get everybody an opportunity to finally showcase what they can do, especially when you’ve got a couple girls who are sick and who are out, and you have to give up a couple of JV games. You want to reward all the kids for coming in and working hard. It is pretty cool to see every kid get into the game and every kid score, so those are the fun ones as a coach,” Storer said.

As for how the game played out, the Lady Indians led 26-2 after the first quarter, beginning the game with a 13-0 run with 3:48 left in the opening frame. Piper Wilkin began with a made free throw, and that was followed by consecutive fastbreak baskets by Davis.

Next was a free throw made by Miles, then she followed that with a two-point basket. After a Chillicothe timeout at 4:44, Jordan made it a 10-0 game with a bucket from the field. The run was completed with a Davis 3-pointer.

Chillicothe scored their lone basket of the first quarter with 2:59 left on the clock, and from there it was another HHS 13-point scoring run starting with a 3-pointer by Davis, then a layup from Young. Next was another 3-pointer from Davis, and she ended the quarter with a put-back basket, then a three-point play with 11.6 left in the quarter for the 26-2 HHS lead.

CHS struck first in the second quarter, but consecutive 3-pointers by Jordan, then a basket by Davis left Hillsboro with a 30-point lead at 34-4 with 6:10 remaining in the first half.

Chillicothe made two free throws, only to see Blair knock down a big 3-pointer with 3:45 on the second quarter clock and a 37-6 HHS advantage.

Later in the second, Piper Wilkin sank a jump shot, and it was another fastbreak bucket by Davis for a 33-point Lady Indian lead. After three points from the Lady Cavaliers, Hillsboro ended the second with four more points scored by Davis and two made free throws by Miles, leaving the score at 48-11 at halftime in favor of the host Lady Indians.

Hillsboro’s third quarter saw them score 10 points with a basket from Jordan, three points by Miles and five points from Davis, including a 3-pointer. Hillsboro scored seven points in the final frame with Davis, Scruggs and Parker Wilkin all connecting with a basket and Blair sank a free throw.

Hillsboro improves to 10-4 overall and 6-1 in the FAC. Chillicothe falls to 1-13 on the season and 0-7 in the FAC.

Next for Hillsboro is a FAC game on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at home against the Washington Lady Blue Lions (3-4, 9-5). Chillicothe is scheduled to face St. Francis DeSales in an away game on Saturday, Jan. 17.

“We have three tough games in a row, starting with Washington Court House, then we play Fayetteville in the Eastern Brown Tournament, then we play North Adams,” Storer said. “Hopefully this is a nice boost of shooting well and being ready to go for the next three.”
