With the new divisions for postseason, the No. 4 seeded Hillsboro Lady Indians hosted a Division IV District First Round game on Monday, defeating the No. 13 seeded Piketon 8-0, winning by the new eight-goal rule as the game was played at Hillsboro High School.

New to tournament play in ’24, the eight-goal rule came into play Monday for Hillsboro, as when any team who holds an eight-goal lead at halftime or anytime in the second half, that signals the end of the tournament contest.

Hillsboro led 5-0 after the first half and added three more goals with 25:17 left in play, ending the game at 8-0.

In the first half, the Lady Indians scored their first goal off a shot from Arianna Evans with 35:13 on the clock, followed by a goal by Kobie Miles as the clock read 26:07. The two-goal lead went to three goals when Ella Jordan put the ball into the net at the 19:31 mark of the first half.

Madi Karnes pushed the Hillsboro lead to four goals with 15:50 on the clock, and at the 11:29 mark Miles scored her second goal of the game for the 5-0 Hillsboro lead that stood until halftime arrived.

The second half saw HHS have goals at the 35:41 mark, 34:55 mark and 25:17 mark. Miles in the second half scored her third goal of the contest for a hat trick, while Jordan and Evans also scored a goal, giving them each two for the game.

Hillsboro improves to 10-7-1 overall. Piketon ends their season at 1-15-1 overall.

The eight-goal win for the Lady Indians advances them to the Div. IV District Quarterfinals on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m in a home game against No. 5 seeded South Point, who are 14-3-0 overall. SPHS defeated Logan Elm, 4-0 in their first-round district game.
