Lady Indians gain 10-inning win over Chillicothe
The Hillsboro Lady Indians took all the Chillicothe Lady Cavaliers had to offer on Monday night (April 1), but after going to extra innings, the Lady Indians left Hillsboro High School as the winners, using a squeeze play to break the tie in the bottom of the 10th inning for the 2-1 win.
Hillsboro’s gutsy move in the bottom of the 10th inning saw them extend their Frontier Athletic Conference winning streak to 31 games, as the three-peat FAC champions moved to 1-0 in the conference standings this season and 6-1 overall.
The bottom of the 10th for the Lady Indians began with Camryn Spruell being hit by a pitch, and then she stole second base. From there, Chloe Roberts had a bunt single hit back to the pitcher, moving Spruell to third base.
Next Isabelle Brunck took first on a fielder’s choice with a bunt, as Spruell stayed at third base. The winning run crossed home plate as Addy Huff bunted to the pitcher, and Spruell raced home for the squeeze play for the final run and the 2-1 win.
HHS and Chillicothe each finished with three hits and no errors, with Hillsboro having Spruell go 2-for-3 with one run, one RBI, one walk, a HBP and a steal.
Roberts had the third hit for HHS.
Also for the Lady Indians, Halle Reveal scored one run (in the bottom of the first inning, with the RBI by Spruell), two walks, two HBP and a steal. HHS saw Mylea Fridley drew one walk, while Huff finished with one RBI and a steal.
