HILLSBORO — The rebuilding Hillsboro Lady Indians were held to one hit against the Miami Trace Lady Panthers Monday at HHS, falling by an 11-1 score.
HHS broke up a perfect game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Peyton Spurlock led off the inning with a double to centerfield for the Lady Indians’ only hit of the game.
After an out was recorded and Spurlock advanced to third base on a passed ball, Paisley Zink batted in Spurlock on a groundout to second base for Hillsboro’s lone run of the game.
“The girls work hard every day. They come in and are competing the way they should, and things will start falling,” HHS head coach Gary Breeden said. “We keep telling them to trust the process and to keep working the process. We are extremely young.
“We keep getting reps, and our brutal week is over with, as we had six games in seven days, and now we are going to have some practice time so we can start getting some things fixed. It is the small stuff, and we just need to keep working hard and everything will take care of itself.”
Spurlock pitched six innings, totaling five strikeouts. Hillsboro also had seven errors in the loss.
Miami Trace scored one run in the top of the first, followed by two runs in the second and one run in the third. From there, the Lady Panthers had a five-run top of the fifth and two runs in the sixth inning.
MTHS totaled 10 hits and committed no errors.
Miami Trace was led at the plate by Kaylee Everhart, as she was 3-for-4 with three runs, one RBI and a walk. She was also the winning pitcher, going six innings, allowing one run (unearned) on one hit and no walks with 10 strikeouts.
Next for HHS is a rematch on the road against the Miami Trace Lady Panthers on Wednesday, April 1 at MTHS with a 5 p.m. start.
