Indians gain win over CNE; fall to Circleville, Batavia

Playing three consecutive road games from Thursday through Saturday, the Hillsboro Indians went 1-2 in that span by defeating the Clermont Northeastern Rockets, followed by losses to Circleville and Batavia as all three were non-conference games.
In Thursday’s (May 15) win, the Indians gained nine hits and had three errors, while the Rockets totaled two hits, and they also had three errors with HHS winning by a 7-0 score.
HHS jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the top of the first, followed by a four-run second inning for a 6-0 advantage.
In the top of the fourth inning, Hillsboro added a run for their final seven-run total.
Luke Holland led the Indians with a three-hit performance against the Rockets, finishing 3-for-4 at the plate.
Six other Hillsboro players each had one hit in the non-conference victory, starting with Zack Brown hitting a double by going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, a steal and a walk. Walker Pence went 1-for-4 with two runs, and Nate Lane was 1-for-4 with a run.
Brody Kelch finished the win at 1-for-4, while Brady Juillerat went 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. Jeven Hochstuhl ended his day at 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. Wesley Bailey forced a walk in the win.
Holland was the winning pitcher on the mound, going 6.1 innings, allowing no runs on one hit and three walks with 10 strikeouts. Kelch pitched 0.2 innings of relief to finish the game, allowing one hit, no runs, one walk and he had one strikeout.

The following day on Thursday, May 16 the Indians lost their non-conference game to the host Circleville Tigers 11-1 in five innings.
The Indians were held to one hit in the loss, as they also had two errors. Circleville finished with 11 hits and no errors.
Circleville scored one run in the bottom of the first, followed with a four-run second inning. They added three runs in the fourth and three final runs in the fifth inning.
Hillsboro’s hit was from leadoff batter Zack Brown, who was 1-for-2. Brayden Hunter scored a run and forced a walk, with the run scoring in the top of the fifth inning. Luke Holland ended with a walk, and Reese Reid also had a walk for HHS.

On Saturday, May 17, Hillsboro lost to the host Batavia Bulldogs by a 7-0 score.
The Indians had seven hits in the loss with one error. Batavia finished with five hits, 11 walks and no errors.
Walker Pence led the Indians at 3-for-4. Jeven Hochstuhl also had a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-3 with a double and a steal.
Zack Brown was 1-for-3 with a steal and a walk, while Luke Holland finished 1-for-3.
The Indians also had Brayden Hunter force a walk, and Brody Kelch also forced a walk.
HHS now has an overall record of 8-15.
