Indians gain nonconference victory against Paint Valley
Saturday night the Hillsboro Indians snapped a five-game losing streak by gaining a home nonconference win against the Paint Valley Bearcats by a 79-42 score.
The convincing win by Hillsboro was their first win since Saturday, Dec. 23 against the McClain Tigers.
During Saturday’s game, two Hillsboro players scored 20-plus points each, as junior Tate Davis led the way with 28 points. Davis sank three 3-pointers, plus seven two-point baskets and he was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.
Freshman Jack Howland ended the win with 22 points for the game, making seven two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and he was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Hillsboro also had junior Nic Burns total 12 points for the game, making one 3-pointer, four two-point baskets and he was also 1-of-2 with his free-throw attempts. He also had nine rebounds.
Fellow junior Brayden Hunter totaled 11 points against Paint Valley, as he finished with three 3-pointers and he also sank a two-point bucket for the Indians in the 37-point victory by the Indians.
There was also Steven Kibler with four points (two two-point baskets) and 12 rebounds, and Dylan Dixon totaled two points with a basket.
In all for Hillsboro, they collected 22 two-point baskets, eight 3-pointers, and as a team they finished 11-of-13 from the free-throw line.
HHS committed just four turnovers in the victory, while Paint Valley had 11.
Carson Free led the Bearcats with 13 points and next was Jase Rinehart with 12 points.
PVHS totaled 14 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers, and they were 5-of-10 from the free-throw line as a team
The Indians are now 7-6 overall, and in the Frontier Athletic Conference standings they have a record of 3-3.
Next for the Indians is an away non-conference game on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at Circleville.
