Indians finish 10th at Ben Logan Raider Invitational; Reno, Hostetler among top placers

The Hillsboro Indians boys wrestling team earned a 10th-place finish at the Ben Logan Raider Invitational Saturday, Jan. 27 in Bellefontaine, with one first-place and one runner-up individual.
Gary Reno was the winner in the 175-pound weight class, and Mathias Hostetler was the 165-pound runner-up. Also for Hillsboro, Andrew Shelton was fifth place in the 215-pound class, and Kylan Brown was sixth place at 126 pounds.
Reno began his championship day by pinning Wayne’s Ryan Pelfrey in the first round, then winning by pin over Xenia’s Matthew Combs in the quarterfinal. In the semifinals, Reno won by pin over Amon Dennis of Trotwood-Madison, then won by decision over Xenia’s Cecil Piner in the first-place match.
Hostetler won by pin over Carson Myers of Bath in the first round and also won by pin over CamRon Morgan of Trotwood-Madison in the quarterfinals. After winning by major decision over Brice Hughes of Sidney in the semifinals, Hostetler fell by pin to Benjamin Logan’s Hayden Hates in the first-place match.
After losing by pin in the first round to Mason Farmer of Urbana, Shelton won by pin over teammate John Deans in the second consolation. He then won by pin over Anthony Butler of Xenia in the third consolation, before falling by pin to Clinton-Massie’s Elijah Groh in the consolation semifinal.
Brown had a bye in the first round and fell to Kyle Kibler of Benjamin Logan via pin in the quarterfinal. In the third consolation, Brown won via pin over Bryson Melton of Wayne, and in the consolation semifinal, he lost by decision to Jayse Clark of Xenia.
In other results:
• Deans went 1-2, with a win by pin over Joey Flynn of Sidney, then falling to Xenia’s Ronnie Butler and the aforementioned loss to Shelton.
• Ian Lawson finished 1-2, with a win by pin over Peyton Ison of West Carrollton and losses to Zaidan Johnson of Urbana and Breese Bollenbocher of Van Wert in the 285-pound class.
• Heath McCravey went 0-2 on the day, falling to Eli Biddle of Sidney and Bollenbocher in the 285-pound class.
• Jonah Wilson was 0-2, with losses to Renson Spear of Van Wert (decision) and Patrick Patterson of Moeller.
