Indians earn 6-run victory over Goshen

Thursday (May 14) was a winning day for the Hillsboro Indians baseball team as they earned an 8-2 home victory over the visiting Goshen Warriors.

The win improved the Indians’ overall record to 11-11. 

Hillsboro opened the game with three straight two-run innings for a 6-0 lead. Goshen added two runs in the top of the fifth, but HHS got those runs back with another two-run inning in the bottom of the sixth for the six-run win. 

The Indians finished with six hits and two errors, while the Warriors had four hits and also committed two errors. 

Luke Holland had two of Hillsboro’s hits, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Holland was also the winning pitcher as he pitched a complete game. In the seven innings he pitched, he allowed no earned runs on four hits with two walks with five strikeouts. 

Walker Pence went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a double. Jack Cornele went 1-for-3 with one run, a walk and two steals. 

Brody Kelch finished 1-for-3 with a run, a walk and two steals. Mason Dumpert went 1-for-1 with a run, two walks and two steals. 

Zack Brown scored two runs, two walks and a steal. Von Steward scored a run, while Brady Juillerat finished with one run and one walk. Carter Stingley collected a run, one RBI and a walk, plus he also hit a sacrifice fly. Charlie Starks finished with one walk. 

Next for the Indians is an away game on Saturday, May 16 at Circleville. Following that game is a home game Monday, May 18 at home against Clermont Northeastern at 5 p.m.

The Indians will play their district tournament opening game Wednesday, May 20 at Sheridan at 5 p.m.
