Indians baseball falls to CM Falcons, 8-5

Hillsboro’s rally late in their non-conference game on Thursday wasn’t enough, as the Clinton-Massie Falcons defeated the host Indians by an 8-5 score in their non-conference contest.

Hillsboro trailed 4-0 after the top of the third inning with CMHS scoring two runs in the first inning, followed with a run each in the second and third. HHS added a run in the bottom of the third but the Falcons came back with two runs in the top of the fourth.

With the score 6-1, the Indians made it a one-run deficit with HHS scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the deficit went to three runs with CMHS scoring two runs in the top of the fifth to hang one for the win as those were the final runs scored in the game.

The Falcons totaled six hits and had just one error, while the Indians had eight hits, but committed six errors.

Zach Burwinkel was charged with the loss, as he pitched 3.2 innings, allowing six runs, but just three were earned. He also had six walks, allowed three hits and struck out three batters.

Ashton Clemons pitched 1.1 innings, allowing two unearned runs on one hit and one walk, plus he had one strikeout. Brayden Hunter pitched two innings for HHS, allowing no runs on two hits and two walks.

Hillsboro at the plate totaled eight hits, with Korbin Adams going 2-for-4 with one RBI. Hunter was 2-for-4, and Thompson finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. Also for the Indians, Nic Burns scored a run and drew a walk.

The Indians also saw Bryce Parsons finish 1-for-4, Jackson Cornele force a walk and score a run, Ovid Wilson go 1-for-3 with a run and Travis Ross finish with a run and RBI. Evan Fender also scored a run and had a walk.

The loss drops HHS to 0-3 on the season.
