Indians baseball falls to Clinton-Massie, Williamsburg on consecutive days

The Hillsboro Indians continued their busy baseball schedule with four games in four days by wrapping up the week with games on Thursday and Friday, as they were defeated by the Clinton-Massie Falcons and the Williamsburg Wildcats.
On Thursday (April 17) the Indians lost a non-conference game at home to the visiting Clinton-Massie Falcons 6-3 at Hillsboro High School.
The game began with a top of the first inning for Clinton-Massie, which saw the Falcons score two runs, and later their lead jumped to 4-0 with a run scored in the third, followed by another runner rounding the bases for a four-run advantage over HHS.
The Falcons increased their lead to 6-0 with two runs crossing the plate in the top of the sixth, but Hillsboro cut that deficit in half with a three-run inning of their own, as that was their lone scoring of the contest.
Clinton-Massie ended the day with seven hits and no errors, while the Indians had six hits and two errors.
Hillsboro’s six hits saw four of those come off the bats of Zack Brown and Walker Pence, as each of those players had two hits in the game. Brown finished 2-for-4, while Pence was 2-for-3 with a run and he was hit by a pitch. Pence also had a stolen base.
The lone extra-base hit for the Indians was from Jack Cornele, who was 1-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI.
Jeven Hochstuhl also had a hit for HHS, going 1-for-3 with a run and a stolen base. Brayden Oberrecht drew the lone walk forced by HHS.
Brown was charged with the pitching loss, allowing two earned runs on four hits with one strikeout. Pence allowed no runs or hits in one inning, as he collected a strikeout. Brayden Juillerat allowed two earned runs off two hits.

On Friday (April 18) the Hillsboro Indians lost on the road against the Williamsburg Wildcats by an 18-8 score in six innings.
The Indians totaled seven hits in the loss, while the Wildcats totaled 10 hits. HHS committed two errors, and Williamsburg committed one error.
The Indians reached the scoreboard first with a two-run top of the second inning and later held a 6-0 lead after four runs crossed the plate in the top of the third.
Williamsburg answered with four runs in the bottom of the third, and after the Indians added another two runs to their lead for an 8-4 lead after the top of the fourth, that's when Williamsburg shifted their game into another gear.
Williamsburg went on to score six runs in the bottom of the fourth, followed with a five-run fifth, and three final runs in the sixth for their run-rule win over Hillsboro.
Two Hilsboro players finished with two-hits apiece, starting with Jack Cornele who was 2-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases. Wesley Bailey also had two hits, as his two doubles led him to a 2-for-3 day at the plate with one run.
Walker Pence ended the day at 1-for-4 with two runs, and teammate Brayden Hunter was 1-for-2 with a home run, one RBI, a steal and he walked once.
Brady Juillerat finished 1-for-1 with a run, one RBI, a stolen base and two walks as Juillerat’s hit was a home run.
Zack Brown was hit by a pitch, as he also scored a run, had two stolen bases and walked twice. Brody Kelch had two RBI with a sacrifice fly for the day.
Pitching for the Indians were Dylan Bender, Pence, Kelch and Hunter, with Kelch and Hunter each having a strikeout.
The two recent losses move the Indians to an overall record of 3-7 this season.
