Hillsboro softball shuts out Chillicothe on consecutive days; clinches no less than share of FAC crown

After two consecutive wins against the Chillicothe Lady Cavaliers, the Hillsboro Lady Indians have clinched no less than a share of their fifth consecutive Frontier Athletic Conference championship with two games left in conference play.
HHS currently is 8-0 in the FAC standings, winning 48 consecutive conference games. On Monday and Tuesday, they made it to the 48 straight wins by scores of 18-0 on April 21 and 16-0 on April 22.
On Monday, at Hillsboro High School, the Lady Indians struck first with a run in the first inning, then put the game away in the next two innings with six runs in the bottom of the second, followed by 11 runs in the bottom of the third.
In their 18-run win, the Lady Indians totaled eight hits and no errors, while Chillicothe had two hits and one error.
Three Hillsboro players each had two hits, as leadoff hitter Mylea Fridley finished 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI and a walk.
Camryn Spruell was 2-for-4 with a double and home run, as she also scored two runs and collected six RBI.
Also with two hits was Addie Huff, who was 2-for-3 with two runs.
Having one hit in the game were Addley Miller, who was 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Meredith Dietrick was 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
The Lady Indians were hit by a pitch nine times, as the players were Madison Dearmon (two), Reagan Clemons (two), Brylee Thornburgh, Chloe Roberts, Miller, Dietrick and Rhianna Clemons.
HHS also had a run scored by Rhianna Clemons, while Roberts scored one run and collected an RBI. Isabelle Brunck finished with one run and two walks. Reagan Clemons scored three runs, had one RBI and walked once. Dearmon finished with one run and an RBI. Rilynn Swisshelm scored one run.
Fridley, Brunck, Thornburgh and Roberts all had a stolen base.
Spruell was the winning pitcher, going all five innings in the circle, allowing no runs off two hits and a walk, plus she finished with 14 strikeouts. Spruell finished with 68 pitches, 50 for strikes.

The next evening (April 22), the Wednesday win saw HHS take home a victory against Chillicothe by a 16-0 score in five innings.
This time the Lady Indians had a one-run first inning, followed with five runs in the top of the third, a seven-run fourth inning and three runs in the fifth inning.
Hillsboro totaled 10 hits and had one error, while Chillicothe finished with two hits and five errors.
Madison Dearmon led Hillsboro with a three-hit game, going 3-for-3 with one run and two RBI. One of her two hits was a double.
Isabelle Brunck finished 2-for-2 with two runs and a walk.
The Lady Indians also had five players with one hit apiece as Mylea Fridley was 1-for-5 with one run and one RBI. Camryn Spruell was 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk. Addie Huff went 1-for-2 with three runs, one RBI and a walk.
Addley Miller ended the day at 1-for-3 with three runs, two RBI and a walk. Meredith Dietrick finished 1-for-1 with two RBI and a walk.
Hillsboro also had two runs scored by Chloe Roberts, plus she also forced two walks. Reagan Clemons scored a run and she had an RBI. Paisley Zink walked once, and teammate Rilynn Swisshelm scored a run.
Huff, Spruell, Brunck and Dietrick (two) all were hit by a pitch.
Steals were credited to Fridley (two), Spruell, Brunck and Roberts.
Spruell was the winning pitcher for the Lady Indians, pitching all five innings allowing no runs on two hits and three walks with 12 strikeouts. She finished with 88 pitches, 56 for strikes.
The wins move Hillsboro to 13-3 overall and 8-0 in the FAC.
