Hillsboro Indians fall to Logan and Jackson in road games
Traveling to Logan High School on Saturday afternoon (April 13), the Hillsboro Indians baseball team lost to the host Logan Chieftains by an 8-4 score in non-conference action. HHS followed with a 13-3 loss in Frontier Athletic Conference action to the Jackson Ironmen on Monday (April 15).
Against Logan on Monday, the Indians led after two innings by a 2-0 score, with one run crossing the plate in each of the first two innings. LHS followed with a run in the bottom of the fourth, and HHS took a 3-1 lead when the top of the fifth came to a conclusion.
Then came the bottom of the fifth, where Logan took the lead with a seven-run inning. HHS scored one last run in the top of the seventh for the four-run loss.
The Indians collected six hits and committed no errors, while the host Logan squad had eight hits and one error.
Two of the six Hillsboro hits saw Zack Brown finish 2-for-3 with a triple, one run and two RBI. Also with hits for the Indians were Nate Lane (1-for-4, one RBI), Walker Pence (1-for-2, one walk), Brayden Oberrecht (1-for-3) and Ben Miller (1-for-3, one run).
Brayden Hunter finished the game with one run and a walk, and Gavin Greer also had an RBI. Peyton Aber scored a run for Hillsboro. Aber, Hunter, Pence and Brown all were hit by a pitch, while Aber, Hunter (two), Pence, Brown and Lane each had a steal.
Oberrecht pitched five innings with five strikeouts. Zach Burwinkel pitched one inning, where he allowed no runs on one hit and two walks, with two strikeouts.

On Monday (April 15), the Indians lost a road FAC contest to the Jackson Ironmen 13-3 in five innings.
All three of Hillsboro’s runs crossed home plate in the top of the third, with the Indians for the game collecting six hits and committing no errors. Jackson gained 11 hits in the FAC contest with two errors.
Six players gained the six Hillsboro hits at Jackson, as Zack Brown was 1-for-3 with a run, and teammate Nate Lane was 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Walker Pence finished 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Brayden Hunter finished with 1-for-3 with one RBI, and Nic Burns was 1-for-3. Also for the Indians, Gavin Greer was 1-for-2 with one run.
Ashton Clemons pitched 3.1 innings with one strikeout, while Ben Miller went 0.2 innings with two strikeouts and Logan Zurface pitched 0.1 innings with one strikeout. Combined, HHS allowed 12 earned runs.
The two losses sent the Indians to an 0-10 overall record.
