Hillsboro falls by 6 points to Peebles Lady Indians

On Monday, the Hillsboro Lady Indians hosted the Peebles Lady Indians in a non-conference game where it was the visiting team leaving with the win when the fourth frame came to a close, as PHS defeated the Lady Indians, 56-50.

In the closely contested game, the HHS Lady Indians led 11-8 after the first frame, but were outscored 20-11 in the second quarter, leaving the Lady Indians of Peebles in front by a 28-22 score at halftime. 

Hillsboro won the third quarter at 17-13, but Peebles rallied in the fourth quarter by winning the frame at 15-11, giving them a six-point win. 

Blake Herdman led the Lady Indians of HHS with 19 points, sinking four two-point buckets, two 3-pointers and she was 5-of-6 with her free-throw attempts. 

Peighton Bledsoe was next for Hillsboro with 12 points by making six two-point baskets. 

Kobie Miles followed with six points coming off one 3-pointer and three free throws off four attempts. 

Rylie Scott totaled five points with a 3-pointer and two-point basket, while Tylee Davis and Kyra Boyd each scored four points. Davis sank one basket and two free throws, while Boyd made two two-point shots from the field. 

Payton Johnson was Peebles’ leading scorer with 27 points, as she connected with 10 two-point baskets and she was 7-of-11 from the free-throw line. 

Abigail Smalley finished with 15 points for Peebles, making three two-point baskets and three 3-pointers. 

HHS as a team totaled 14 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers, and they were 10-of-14 from the free-throw line, plus they committed 20 turnovers. 

Peebles totaled 20 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers, and they finished 7-of-13 with their free-throw attempts. PHS also committed 15 turnovers. 

The loss sends HHS to an overall record of 8-9, while Peebles is now 13-2 overall. 

HHS is scheduled to play again Wednesday, Jan. 24 in Frontier Athletic Conference action at Chillicothe. HHS is 4-4 in the FAC standings (third place), while CHS is 3-12 overall and 2-6 in the FAC (tied for fifth place).
