Hillsboro earns 26-point FAC win over Washington

Three Hillsboro Lady Indians basketball players were able to score in double figures, and a total of six players reached the scoring column as the Lady Indians went on the road and defeated the Washington Lady Blue Lions, 55-29 Wednesday at Washington High School. 

The Hillsboro squad had team totals which included 17 two-point field goals, four 3-pointers, and they went 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. HHS also collected 29 rebounds, 13 assists, 15 steals and even threw in a block in the Frontier Athletic Conference win. 

The game saw Hillsboro lead 11-3 at the conclusion of the first frame, as Ella Jordan made two baskets for four points, Kobie Miles sank a 3-pointer and Tylee Davis also made two baskets for four points in the opening quarter. 

Hillsboro then outscored Washington 14-10 in the second quarter, with the Lady Indians having six points scored by Jordan as she drained a 3-pointer, made a two-point basket and even made a free throw. Miles scored the rest of the second-quarter points, with Miles having eight points in the frame, including going 4-of-4 from the free-throw line and making two two-point buckets. 

Holding a 25-13 lead at halftime, HHS came out in the third quarter to outscore Washington 14-12 for a 39-25 lead once the third frame ended. During the third frame, HHS had eight points scored by Davis as she made a 3-pointer, two two-point baskets and a free throw. Scoring two points each off baskets were Jordan, Miles and Annia Young. 

The fourth quarter saw the Lady Indians outscored Washington 16-4. Hillsboro had two made baskets for four points by Young, three points each from Davis (one basket and a free throw) and Miles (a 3-pointer), and two points apiece scored by Jordan (two free throws), Piper Wilkin, and Nevaeh Blair (a two-point basket). 

For the game, the Lady Indians were led by Miles with 16 points, totaling two 3-pointers, three two-point baskets and she was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. She also collected one rebound, four assists and three steals. 

Davis finished with 15 points as she made one 3-pointer, five two-point baskets and she was also 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. Davis added nine rebounds, three assists and three steals. 

Jordan totaled 14 points with a 3-pointer, four two-point buckets, and Jordan was also 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. The junior also added five rebounds, one assist and four steals. 

Young totaled six points off three baskets, 10 rebounds (six offensive), one assist and one steal. Scoring two points each off one basket apiece were Wilkin (one rebound, two assists, three steals) and Blair (one rebound). HHS also had Parker Wilkin with one assist, and Taylor-Ann Scruggs finished with two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block. 

Washington was led by Kate Miller with 12 points, and the rest of the Lady Blue Lions scoring included Ellie Racine (7), Peyton Hughes (6), Jayden Hatfield (2) and Carlee Ellars (2). Washington’s totals included nine two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and they were 5-of-10 from the free-throw line. 

In the JV game, the Lady Indians defeated Washington, 21-2 in a two-quarter game. HHS was led in scoring by Taylor-Ann Scruggs with seven points, followed by Zoey Page with six, Neveah Blair with four, and scoring two points each were Kylee-Ann Scruggs and Parker Wilkin. 

The win improves Hillsboro to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the FAC standings. Washington falls to 1-2 in the FAC and 3-2 overall.
