Hillsboro boys wrestling 15th at Westfall Butcher Green Memorial

The Hillsboro Indians boys wrestling team participated at the 2025 Westfall Butcher Green Memorial at Westfall High School in Williamsport on Saturday, where they finished in 15th place overall. 

In the 21-team event, the 15th-place Indians scored a 44.0. The winning school was Celina with a 250 score. Westfall was the runner-up at 205. The rest of the Top 5 included West Jefferson (201.5), Huntington Ross (178.5) and Jackson (167.5). 

Another Frontier Athletic Conference team included the Washington Blue Lions in seventh place at 145.5. 

Placing for HHS was sophomore Landon Frazier, as he was third place overall in the 132-pound weight class, finishing the event at 4-1 overall. Frazier gained the position with a tech fall win by a 21-5 score in the third-place match against Jackson’s Gage Boswell. 

Starting the event, Frazier won by tech fall over Bryce Jeffers of Westfall at 22-2. In the second round Frazier defeated Circleville’s Chase Melvin by pin fall at 1:00. Frazier earned a third win as he defeated Washington’s Blake Roush by pin at 0.25. In the sixth round, Frazier lost to Westfall’s Vincent Gerlach. 

At 165 pounds, HHS freshman Jace Zugg placed sixth overall. Zugg finished the day at 3-2 overall. In the first round Zugg won against Justin Rawlins of Hilliard Davidson by pin fall at 0.26. Next was a pin fall win by Zugg over Jace Nguyen of Adena at 3:40 in the second round. 

Zugg then lost to Luke Maxwell of Celina in the third round. In the sixth round, Zugg won against Cameron Smith of Southeastern via pin fall at 1:46. In the seventh round, Zugg in the fifth place match lost to Dylan Peterson of Jackson. 

In the first round, the Indians also saw Andrew Shelton win in the 285-pound weight class as he pinned Adena’s Hunter Smith at 0.58. Shelton lost his next two matches to Caihden Morgan of Circleville and Chance King of Newark Catholic, end the event at 1-2 overall. 

HHS also had Benjamin Souder (126 pounds) and Kenneth Miller (138 pounds) wrestle at the event, as Souder was 1-2 overall, falling in the first round to Michael Fleming of Westfall, but bouncing back in the second round with a win by default over Kolton Conrad of Amanda-Clearcreek. In the third round, Souder fell to Trenton Rice of West Jefferson. 

Miller, Robert Souder (144) and Purdon (150) each wrestled two matches for HHS.
