Blue Lions too much for Hillsboro in road loss
The Hillsboro Indians’ miscues ended up being too much against the host and state-ranked Washington Blue Lions on the road Tuesday night, falling in the Frontier Athletic Conference game by a 10-1 score.
Hillsboro struggled in the field, committing eight errors, leading to four unearned runs scored by Washington. HHS scored their lone run in the top of the fifth inning, with Jackson Cornele knocking in Peyton Aber.
HHS finished with four hits in the game, as Walker Pence was 2-for-3, Aber went 1-for-2 with a run and one walk, plus Brayden Oberrecht was 1-for-3. Cornele finished with the lone RBI for HHS, and he also drew a walk, plus he was hit by a pitch. Also having a walk in the FAC loss for the Indians was Gavin Greer.
Cornele and Pence each had a steal for Hillsboro.
Nate Lane pitched two innings (51 pitches, 31 for strikes) for the Indians, allowing six runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks, with two strikeouts. Oberrecht (93 pitches, 51 for strikes) went four innings on the mound, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks, while also collecting five strikeouts.
The loss moves Hillsboro to an 0-3 FAC record and 0-8 overall record.
