Mustangs win by one over Hillsboro

DODSONVILLE — The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs and the Hillsboro Indians renewed their Highland County rivalry game on Tuesday night at Lynchburg-Clay High School, where it was the Mustangs gaining the upper hand with a 1-0 win over their county foe.

The two teams battled in a competitive 80 minutes of soccer where the lone goal of the match was scored in the first half, as LCHS freshman Harley Lewis scored the game’s only goal with 19:34 on the scoreboard.

Both teams had multiple opportunities to score goals in the first half, but the defenses of both the Mustangs and Indians battled strong, not just in the first half, but for the entire match.

The Indians totaled 18 shots, and HHS keeper Ryan Fender finished with five saves. At goal in the shutout win for the Mustangs was Isaac Eyre.

The loss moves the Indians’ overall record to 7-4. This season in Frontier Athletic Conference action, the Indians are 3-2, currently second place in the FAC.

Lynchburg-Clay improves to 7-3-1 overall, and in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference they currently have a 5-0-1 record, second place in the SHAC.

Next for the Mustangs is a game Thursday, Sept. 26 at home against the Williamsburg Wildcats with a 5 p.m. start.

The Indians are scheduled to play again on Thursday, Sept. 26 on the road in FAC action against the Jackson Ironmen at 6:45 p.m.
