Indians defeat rival Lynchburg-Clay

Tuesday evening the Hillsboro Indians hosted the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs in a Highland County rivalry game where it was the Indians defending their home court, 64-55.
The game between the two Highland County counterparts started off with the Mustangs holding the lead at the end of the first buy a 16-13 score, with the Mustangs having five points in the opening quarter by Elam Faust (including a 3-pointer), four points from Denver Clinton, a 3-pointer from Cody Bell and two points apiece scored by Asher Faust and Trevor Niehaus.
In the same first frame, the Indians had their 13 points scored by Mason Dumpert with five points, as one of his baskets was a 3-pointer. There were also four points from Tate Davis, and with two points each in the first were Jack Howland and Brady Juillerat.
The Indians (8-7) scored 17 points in the second, while LCHS added 13 points to their total, giving Hillsboro a 30-29 halftime lead.
HHS in the second had seven points in the quarter (making his second 3-pointer of the game), while Tre Captain scored three points, Juillerat also scored three points off three made free throws. The Indians also had two points each from Davis and Dylan Dixon.
The Mustangs (6-9) in the second had a 3-pointer from Clinton, and with two points each were Asher Faust, Quinn Wells, Braedon West, Niehaus and Elam Faust.
HHS came out of the halftime break with a 19-point third quarter, while the Mustangs scored 11 points, putting the score at 49-40 after three quarters.
LC’s third frame had two 3-pointers from Bell, a 3-pointer by Niehaus and two points scored by Clinton.
Hillsboro’s third quarter had three made baskets for six points, Howland scored five points in the third, with one of his baskets being a 3-pointer. Davis tacked on four points, Brayden Hunter sank a basket for two points, and with one point each were Dixon and Juillerat.
In the fourth quarter the two teams each scored 15 points, leaving the Indians with a nine-point victory.
LCHS had four points from Bell in the fourth, while teammates West scored five points (including a 3-pointer) and six points from Elam Faust.
The Indians’ final quarter had Davis with six points (4-of-4 from the FT line), three points by Dumpert, four points scored by Captain and two free throws by Howland.
Davis led HHS with 16 points, finishing with five two pointers and he was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Dumpert scored 15 points in the victory, making four two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and he was 1-of-1 in his free throw attempts.
Captain totaled 13 points for the Indians with six two-point buckets and he was 1-of-4 from the free-throw line.
HHS also had nine points from Howland, six points scored by Juillerat, three points by Dixon and two points from Hunter.
Hillsboro totaled 20 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers, and they were 15-of-21 from the free-throw line.
For the Mustangs, Bell and Elam Faust each led with 13 points. Bell totaled two two-pointers and three 3-pointers.
Elam Faust finished with four two-point field goals, one 3-pointer, and he went 2-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Clinton ended the game with nine points, and with seven points each were Niehaus and West. LC also had Asher Faust with four points, and Wells scored two points.
LCHS ended the game with 16 two-point baskets, seven 3-pointers and they were 2-of-5 from the free-throw line.
