Mustangs lose home SHAC game to rival Rockets
Hosting a Southern Hills Athletic Conference game on Tuesday evening at LCHS, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs were unable to overcome a seven-point halftime deficit, eventually falling to the visiting Fayetteville Rockets, 54-50.
The Mustangs trailed 15-10 at the end of the first quarter, and after Fayetteville won the second frame at 13-11, the Mustangs trailed 28-21 at halftime.
LCHS won the second half on the scoreboard as each team scored 14 points in the third, and the fourth quarter saw the Mustangs outscore Fayetteville, 15-12.
LCHS had three players score in double figures, with Cody Bell leading the way with 14 points (four 3-pointers), five rebounds, two assists and a block.
Elam Faust totaled 11 points (two 3-pointers), four rebounds (three offensive) and two steals.
Denver Clinton finished with 10 points (one 3-pointer), five rebounds (one offensive), four assists and two steals.
LCHS also had scoring from Braedon West with six points (two 3-pointers, two assists, two steals), Max Baker with five points (two rebounds) and Trevor Niehaus with four points (three rebounds, one assist, one steal). Asher Faust finished with one assist and three steals.
Team totals for LCHS included 9-of-15 from the free-throw line, 19 rebounds (seven offensive), 10 assists, 10 steals and one block.
"Our kids fought valiantly to get back in the game,” LCHS head coach Kyle Pertuset said. “We had a few mental mistakes cost us. We are finally getting back close as fully healthy that we can get.”
Fayetteville was led in the scoring column by Alex Bradshaw with 15 points, and he also totaled eight rebounds. Charlie Coffman finished with 11 points for Fayetteville, and Jack South totaled 13 points for the Rockets.
The Rockets totaled 25 rebounds (10 offensive), 20 assists, four steals and six blocks.

Indians lose tough game at Chillicothe
The Friday night Frontier Athletic Conference showdown between the Hillsboro Indians and Chillicothe Cavaliers for the first of two times this season went to the host Cavaliers, as they Indians lost the FAC contest, 62-56.
The Cavs led 10-9 after the first quarter, but the Indians fought back with a 17-11 second frame for a halftime lead of 26-21. The Cavaliers scored 20 points in the third frame and 21 points in the fourth frame. For the Indians, they scored 12 points in the third and 18 points in the fourth quarter.
Hillsboro was led in scoring by Jack Howland with 24 points, with the sophomore making five two-point buckets, two 3-pointers, and he was 8-of-10 from the free-throw line, including going 5-of-6 in free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter.
Xander Lake totaled 15 points with five two-point baskets and finished 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. Tate Davis followed with 13 points, totaling two two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and he was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Also in the scoring column for the Indians were Mason Dumpert with two points and Brayden Hunter with two points, both sinking a basket from the field.
Team totals for HHS were 14 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers, and they were 16-of-19 from the free-throw line.
The Cavaliers were led by Caden Cox with 16 points, Cam Badger with 14 points, Andrew Hamman with 12 points and Cooper Stoneking with 11 points, giving the Cavaliers four players scoring in double figures. Also with points for CHS were Daniel Scissum with five points and Juan Miller with four points.
Team totals for Chillicothe included 18 two-point baskets, four three-point baskets and they were 14-of-20 from the free-throw line.
The loss sends Hillsboro’s overall record to 2-1 with a 0-1 record in the FAC. Chillicothe improves to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the FAC.

Wildcats lose to Fayetteville
The Southern Hills Athletic Conference saw a battle between the visiting Whiteoak Wildcats and the host Fayetteville Rockets where it was the home team Rockets defeating the Wildcats, 76-48.
Fayetteville led 23-19 after the first quarter, and it was the Wildcats winning the second frame 11-9, but it was Fayetteville with a 32-30 lead at halftime.
The third quarter saw Fayetteville score 22 points, and the Rockets also scored 22 points in the fourth quarter for a 44-point second half.
Whiteoak in the second half scored 11 points in the third and seven points in the fourth quarter.
WHS had three players score double figures, with Brady Brandenburg being the leading scorer with 13 points, making five baskets from the field and going 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Zander Roades totaled 12 points as he made two two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and he was 2-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Aiden Crowe totaled 10 points off two baskets from the field, a 3-pointer, and he went 3-of-7 from the free-throw line.
The remainder of the scoring for Whiteoak included Zach Igo with five points (one two-point basket, one 3-pointer), Sawyer Blair (two two-point baskets, one free throw), Jackson Tedford with two points and Jonah Michael scored one point.
The Wildcats totaled 13 two-point field goals, four 3-pointers, and they finished 10-of-17 from the free-throw line.
Fayetteville scoring included 21 points by Brody Feldhaus, 18 points by Alex Bradshaw and 16 points from Charlie Coffman, as they were the top three scorers.
Fayetteville also had seven points from Cam Polston, six points from Keegan Craycraft, four points by Jack South and two points each from Blake Rugenstein and Ayden Wells.
Team totals for the Rockets were 24 two-point baskets, seven 3-pointers, and they were 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.
The win improves Fayetteville to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the SHAC. WHS is now 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the SHAC.

Mustangs fall at Peebles
The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs had a Southern Hills Athletic Conference loss on Saturday evening against the Peebles Indians by a 77-68 score at PHS.
The Indians led 18-14 after the first quarter concluded, and they followed that by outscoring the Mustangs 22-19 in the second for a halftime lead over the Mustangs by a 40-33 score.
PHS won the third frame at 22-13, and in the fourth quarter the Mustangs took the frame at 22-15.
Lynchburg-Clay was led in the scoring column by Cody Bell and Trevor Niehaus with 16 points each. Bell totaled four 3-pointer, and two two-point baskets. Niehaus collected eight two-point baskets for LCHS.
Denver Clinton finished with 15 points. Elam Faust totaled 11 points, followed by Braedon West with eight points and Asher Faust with two points.
The Indians were led by Josh McClary with 25 points, followed by Carson Reed with 17 points. Also in the scoring column for PHS were Garrett Shiveley with nine points, Bo Johnson with eight points, Paxton Ryan with seven points, Hayden Browning with six points, Grady Knechtly with four points and Colin Sims with one point.
Peebles made a total of eight 3-pointers in their win over Lynchburg-Clay.
LCHS now stands at 1-3 in the SHAC standings and 1-4 overall.
