LC Mustangs fall to Eastern

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs lost a road Southern Hills Athletic Conference game Saturday night, falling to the host Eastern Warriors 67-45.

LCHS scored nine points in the first quarter and added 10- points in the second for 19 points when halftime arrived.

Eastern in the first half had an 18-point first quarter and 14 points in the second for a 32-19 lead at halftime.

Each team scored 15 points in the third quarter, and in the fourth frame Eastern scored 20 points and the Mustangs scored 11 points.

Denver Clinton led LCHS with 13 points, making five two-point baskets and he was 3-of-5 from the free-throw line. Clinton also had seven rebounds, two assists and three blocks.

Cody Bell totaled nine points, with three two-point baskets, and one 3-pointer. He also collected two rebounds and three assists.

LCHS also had five points from Asher Faust, six points from Braedon West, four points by Trevor Niehaus, four points from Elam Faust, two points from Austin Bell and two points scored by Tanner Roberts.

Eastern was led in scoring by Grady Barber with 17 points.

LCHS now has an overall record of 8-12, with a SHAC Division I record of 6-7.

Eastern improves to 10-3 in the SHAC Division I standings and 16-4 overall.

Fairfield gains dominant win over Manchester

Monday saw the Fairfield Lady Lions complete their regular season with a Southern Hills Athletic Conference victory by defeating the Manchester Lady Greyhounds 45-17 at Manchester High School.

Fairfield had consistent scoring from start to finish with quarter scoring of 12, 11, 11 and 11, respectively, from the first through fourth quarters. Their defense was strong too, with Manchester scoring seven points in the first, followed by consecutive quarters of one point and a fourth frame of eight points.

Fairfield led 12-7 after the first frame, 23-8 at halftime and 34-9 after three quarters.

Kassi Miller and Meri Jackson each led the Lady Lions with 14 points.

Miller totaled two two-point baskets, three 3-pointers and she was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.

Jackson finished with three two-pointers, two 3-pointers and was 2-of-4 in her free throw attempts.

FHS also had six points from Vivian Henninger, five points scored by Rilee Quickle and three points each from Isabelle Hale and Addison Cannon.

Destiny Alexander led Manchester with five points.

The win leaves Fairfield with a 7-15 overall record and 5-8 mark in the SHAC Division II standings. Manchester ends their regular season at 3-19 overall and 0-13 in the SHAC.

HHS is now 9-11 overall this season.

Indians earn win over visiting Circleville

Hillsboro sophomore Jack Howland scored a career-high 35 points Monday night, as the Indians defeated the guest Circleville Tigers 70-55 in non-conference action.

As the Indians celebrated their seniors, they earned a home win, but they trailed after the first frame by a 13-12 score. They came back in the second with 19 points, while Circleville scored 17 points for a halftime score of 31-30 in favor of the Indians.

The third quarter saw HHS outscored the Tigers 17-15, and then HHS ran away with the lead in the fourth quarter with a 22-10 frame to win by 15 points.

Howland’s 35-point effort saw him finish with five two-point baskets, five 3-pointers, and he was 10-of-12 from the free-throw line. Howland scored 18 of his points in the fourth quarter.

Tre Captain scored 13 points in the win with three two-pointers, two 3-pointers, and he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.

Brady Juillerat totaled nine points with four two-point buckets, and he went 1-of-1 in his free throw attempt.

Mason Dumpert totaled five points with a 3-pointer and two-point basket. Brayden Hunter scored five points off two two-point baskets, and he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Dylan Dixon finished with three points with a two-point basket, and he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.

Ed Kirk led the Tigers with 15 points.
