BASEBALL REPORT: Lions, Mustangs gain wins; Indians, Tigers fall in non-conference game

Mustangs shut out SHAC foe North Adams
The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs put on a hitting display on Tuesday evening (April 1), winning a Southern Hills Athletic Conference road game at North Adams by a 15-0 score against the Green Devils.
LCHS jumped ahead by a 4-0 score after two innings, plating two runs in both the first and second innings, then added one run in the top of the third,
The Mustangs continued to chip away at the Green Devils with a two-run fourth inning and a two-run sixth inning for a 9-0 lead. In the top of the seventh inning, LCHS scored six runs to eventually win by 15 runs as they shut out their SHAC opponent.
Lynchburg-Clay totaled 12 hits and committed one error, while NAHS had two hits and committed one error.
Cole Wells had the hot bat for LCHS, going 3-for-4 with four runs, one RBI and a walk, plus he had one steal.
Josiah Burns finished 2-for-5 with one run and three RBI. There was also Tanner Roberts going 2-for-2 with one run and four RBI, including a double, plus he walked twice. The freshman Roberts also had two stolen bases.
Elam Faust ended the game at 1-for-5 as he hit a triple, scoring three runs and gaining one RBI. Faust was also hit by a pitch.
The Mustangs also had Trevor Niehaus go 1-for-3 (a double) with two runs, a walk and he was hit by a pitch. Braedon West finished the game 1-for-3, and Quin Wells was 1-for-2 with a run, one RBI and one walk. Wells also had four steals.
Cody Bell for LCHS was 1-for-3 with two runs, one RBI, a steal and a walk, plus he was hit by a pitch. Caden Boone scored one run and walked once, and Christian Flowers collected two RBI and walked twice. Aric Slack finished the game with one RBI and one walk.
West was the winning pitcher as he didn’t allow a hit in six innings on the mound. West also didn’t allow a run and walked two, while finishing the game with eight strikeouts. West totaled 67 pitches, 48 for strikes.
Kristian Beachy pitched one inning, allowing two hits, no runs and no walks on 15 pitches, 13 for strikes.
The win improves LCHS to an overall record of 2-1, and they are also 1-0 in the SHAC.

Indians fall to Waverly at VA Memorial Stadium
Playing at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe on Tuesday (April 1), the Hillsboro Indians were the home team where they lost to the Waverly Tigers 4-2 in a non-conference contest.
Waverly scored first for a 1-0 lead with one run run the top of the second inning, and both teams scored one run in the fourth for a 2-1 WHS lead. Waverly added two runs in the top of the seventh, and the Indians answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
HHS finished the game with with four hits and committed two errors. Waverly had eight hits and no errors.
Nate Lane for HHS was 1-for-2 (a double) with one run, one RBI and he walked once. Jeven Hochstuhl was 1-for-3, Brayden Hunter finished 1-for-2 with a walk and Gavin Greer finished the game 1-for-2.
Jack Cornele forced a walk, scored one run and had one stolen base. Brady Juillerat collected one RBI and two walks.
Brody Kelch pitched 0.2 innings, allowing no runs, no hits and no walks with one strikeout on seven pitches, four for strikes.
Brayden Oberrecht was charged with the loss as he pitched 6.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and one walk. He also finished with a strong nine strikeouts for the Indians, tossing 94 pitches, 60 for strikes.
The Indians now stand at 0-2 overall this season.

Big innings lift Lions past Peebles
Fairfield’s Southern Hills Athletic Conference game against the Peebles Indians at PHS saw them have two four-run innings, leading to an 11-7 victory over the host Indians on Tuesday (April 1).
FHS started the game with a four-run top of the first inning, followed later by another four-run inning in the top of the fourth for an 8-2 lead as Peebles scored two runs in the bottom of the second.
The Lions added two runs in the top of the fifth, but PHS answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Both teams scored one run in the sixth inning, and in the bottom of the seventh the host Indians scored one run.
Fairfield for the game totaled 10 hits and committed one error, while Peebles had six hits and committed four errors.
The Lions had three players finish with two hits a piece with Corey Zimmerman going 2-for-5 with a double, one steal, three runs and one RBI. Blaine Fauber was 2-for-5 with one run and two RBI. Also with two hits was Anderson Humphreys at 2-for-4.
Zane Matthews was 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, plus he was hit by a pitch twice and had a stolen base. Corbin Willey was 1-for-5 (a double) with one run and one RBI.
Zach Ahsaruk finished 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, he was hit by a pitch on two occasions, and he had one steal. Caleb Rice went 1-for-4 with one run.
Ben Miller ended his day with one run, and he was hit by a pitch two times.
Willey was the winning pitcher for the Lions, going 4.1 innings on the mound. Willey allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits with four strikeouts. Miller pitched 2.2 innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on two hits and he had five strikeouts.

Tigers fall to Piketon at VA memorial Stadium
The McClain Tigers traveled to Chillicothe on Monday (March 31) to take on the Piketon Redstreaks, losing the non-conference game by a 10-5 score.
MHS trailed 2-1 at the conclusion of the first inning, and MHS, who was listed as the home team, tied the score at 2-2 with a run crossing the plate in the bottom of the second.
Piketon regained the lead with a five-run top of the third, then they added one run in the top of the fourth and two final runs in the top of the seventh. McClain scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and one last run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Tigers totaled seven hits and committed two errors, while Piketon had 12 hits and also committed two errors.
Carson Chandler led the Tigers in hits as he was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Conner Chandler finished 1-for-3 with one run. Hudson Lovett was 1-for-3 with a double, one run, one RBI and one walk. Conner McCune went 1-for-3 with two runs and one walk.
Also for McClain at the plate, Hayden Cornell was 1-for-2 with a walk and one RBI, and Kolton Lamb finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. The Tigers had one RBI from Easton Ary.
Hunter Peabody and Chandler were each hit by a pitch, and steals went to McCune, Lovett, Chandler, and Peabody with two each, while Cornell had one stolen base.
Conner Chandler pitched 4.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks with a total of six strikeouts. Ary pitched 3.0 innings, allowing seven runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks with one strikeout.
The loss moves the Tigers to 1-2 overall.
